need to open ports
Router, firewalls

if you use a router that supports port forwarding, you can try to forward this ports to your PC's IP-Address:
- port 113 (ident)
- port 59 (DCC listen)
- a range of ports for DCC sessions (1024...5000 by default).
Note, that forwarding ports (especially ranges of ports) will leave this ports unprotected.
We should narrow down the DCC port range:
how many DCC send plus DCC chat connections do you need?

Max Sends total from file server settings (2 in our example)
+
Max Users from file server settings (3 in our example)
+
some reserve e.g. for outgoing Chats (let's say 3)

That would make a new range of 4992 to 5000, allowing still 8 simultaneous outgoing DDC chats and/or sends.

thanks, but for some reason whenever i put the ports in to be forwarded, i hit apply then igo back and the settings are gone... im using a linksys. i really have no idea whats going on. your directions are perfect, and it would work. i turned of everything that needs to be turned off.. but it sitll wont let me forwar ports. it doesnt say an error,it just reverts back to the original inputsettings.

are you putting your ip in
under DHCP (http://192.168.1.1/DHCP.htm) click the CLIENTS (http://192.168.1.1/DHCPTable.htm)table
then when you know your ip for that computer you will know what ip to put in
ie,,
192.168.1.1 or 182.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3 whatever your ip that the router assigens the computer you want to server on
