Flat panels are shit for gaming. Besides, you can get a bigger CRT for the price of smaller flat panel.

Flat panels are for space saving and status.

I'd stick with CRT too.
You can get a bigger, high-quality CRT for the same money as a flat panel.
Unless space is really, REALLY an issue, I wouldn't recommend LCDs at all really, unless you're the type who likes to impress
people with your wastefulness.

You still can't beat CRTs for performance.

Exactly and at least get .26 dot pitch and 19"

Flat panels can now be used for games.

My advice to people is always to look for the best, see what features it has, then come back down to what you can afford.

I haven't sussed out flat panels since about July, but I came up with the Samsung Syncmaster 213T 21.3"
See it here. (http://hardwarecentral.dealtime.com/xPC-Samsung_SyncMaster_213_T_21_3_in)

This is outside your present price, you may have to hit someone up for a loan!

PS. It would be handy if people could put the country they are in as well as $ sign, as in US$, HK$, AUD$, then we all know how much you have to spend.

Way too much money for a monitor.
You can get a decent HDTV for a little bit more (and larger too)!!!!

flat panels are just fine for games, quality and detail are much better and with a sharper picture, I have a 19" crt I thaught that was fine until my gf(aka wormless) baught a 19" flat pannel ggrrrrrr, it cost her £499, here is a link (http://www.mysimon.com/Philips_190B4CS___flat_panel_display___TFT___19_/4014-3174_8-30471055.html?tag=lst&q=) and with a dot pitch of 0.29.

I "like" flat panels. It's just that for what you pay for a flat panel, I can get a CRT with 2 to 3" more for the same price. It's just economics.

More people should look towards having 2 screens, most modern graphics cards come with the capability now. In Australia you can buy a 17inch screen for AUD$200. If you use graphics progs with floating pallettes, they are indespensable.

I like flatpanel lcd's too, not that I can really afford one right now. One thing to keep in mind is the Viewable Screen size. the viewable area of a flatpanel is about an inch, 1 1/2 inches bigger than that of a regular crt. I miss the screen from my old craptop :(

one thing about flatpanels- when you show them off, it seems like there's always gotta be SOME asshole who thinks he has to put his finger up against it and wiggle it around to watch the colors go goofy where he puts his finger.

seriously tho, you can get a better size, and features for a LOT better price on a crt than a flatpanel, unless you can get them wholesale.

Hmm, I'm running a 19" Sony Trinitron and I'm loving it. I got it for like $290 on Price Watch (http://www.pricewatch.com) almost a year ago. I'm sure you could get a 21" for the same price by now. I hear the Samsung SyncMaster's are pretty nice too.

CRT is definatly the way to go, LCD flat panels are horrible for gaming because the refresh rates are so slow. The only thing that looks better on a LCD is text.

with OEM you usually don't get things like manuals or cables or long warranties, concordantly the prices are lower

Thanks for all the info...What do you think about this one (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=666252&sku=S203-2104) . I cant afford $ 1,300.00 us . for a good lcd monitor for gaming.

Let me know what you think??

My 19" is supported up to 1600 x 1200, so I don't think you'll have a problem there. :P

OK whoever says that flat screen LCDs are crap for gaming is either a complete moron or they bought a crappy one several years ago.

I bought a 17 inch flat screen from dell 3 years ago called the "1701FP" with a max res of 1280x1024. It was only $1000, which was a steal compared to the ViewSonics and the other things available at the time, which were around 2 or 3k.

There is absolutely NO GHOSTING whatsoever, even on the fastest action games. I always run the monitor at its maximum resolution, which is probably why it has lasted so long (it doesn't need to scale up or down all the time). There are 1,310,720 pixels on the screen and one pixel on the far left side is one tiny shade darker than all the others. That's all the damage it has recieved over 3 years of use! 0.0000000076% of the monitor's pixels are slightly off.

LCD screens never ever flicker. So if you're staring into a monitor forr a few hours each day it wont wreck your vision. It's an incredibly sharp picture and i assume it uses a lot less power. It's at least 80% lighter, and it doesn't generate any static. Once you go LCD, you NEVER go back.

I don't know....I use LCDs at work, and I still don't like em.
I'd rather have my Sony Trinitron 21" flat-screen any time.
The only thing I don't like about CRTs is the heat they generate.

all LCD models are unique different, even if the response time is the same - the only way you can tell how bad the lagging is if you look at it yourself, or find an accurate review

LCDs are MUCH easier on the eyes! I'm 15 and my eyes are going bad from looking at my CRT so much...

Those hightec projectors that make the screen as large as the wall is awsome.
You could have raves at your house.
