The very first 9500 pro's that came out were identical to the 9700 hardware wise, they just had 4 of the pipelines disabled. People were able to unlock the 4 extra pipes and flash with 9700 pro bios and it was practically a 9700 pro for a 9500 pro price. So they changed it from the L formation (ram layout) to the I form. Which is what you posted here.

Eventually, ATI dropped the 9700 line completely because it was too good of a deal overall.

If the L formation version is indeed the card he got and he felt inclined, he could turn it into a 9700 pro if he learned how.

I for one have a 9700 TX card I got with a DELL 4550 system last christmas. GREAT deal on the card, it was cheaper than a 9700 non pro, and just a couple mhz lower clock. But it's default 8 pipeline active and it's a real R300. Love the card.

i have a refrigerated system, with ram syncs on the memory, plus a copper heatsink, and an 80mm fan on the heatsink push about 84cfs on the fan. and i got 2 120mm case fans blowing air around, one of the 120mm fans is suckin air out of the top of the case, and the other 120 is suckin air in from the air conditioner. plus on my prcessor i have an copper core, with aluminum fins heatsink and another 80mm fan blowing about 84 cfms (cfs?) directly on the heatsink. so it all stays pretty damn cold. oh... and i have platinum heat spreaders on the corsair memory chips, and another 80mm fan blowing on them.

right now the case temp is about 18. the processor runs at about 24 idle, and 30 load, and the gfx core runs at about 25 idle, and 32 full load. and gfx memory runs about 30 idle and 36full load. im using the onboard temp moniter for the processor, and 2 asus probes for the gfx card. plus a temperature dial reading the inside case temp.

I could've sworn that it was only the 9500 non-Pro that this was possible with. Actually, I know the the 9500 could be unlocked through software, so maybe the BIOS flash trick for the Pro is something I missed...

Anyway, I have a Radeon 9500 Pro... Hmm... :)

[edit]

Ahh, found this tidbit of info:

It is important to note that the BIOS update by itself will not improve the card at all. The update will merely allow you to overclock the card. So the test results from the BIOS flashed 9500 Pro should be identical to its previous stock state.
