Has anyone tried this one so far?
Looks good, a bit like utorrent for .NZBs.

Sounds interesting. Looks to be lacking features maybe?

I'm going to try it.
Seems the same approach as utorrent though. 355Kbs is the size of the download.

Maybe something to try... Only thing it seems to be missing for my use is that auto import thingie you get with Altbinz so you don't have to open the NZB files.
Would like to get rid of the nazi protection that Albinz use too :P

Correction... both versions support multiple servers, but the standalone version does not support repair and unpack.

tried it. its terrible.
ssl doesnt work, has no realtime speed monitor, only 1 server at a time..

tried the full version. it couldn't connect to astraweb. on the plus side it has a nice easy to use design.

I'm using AstraWeb and everything works fine for me, what error do you get?

I like this app a lot! It's easy and clean, not cluttered like alt.binz. I have no problems with it being single server, if you have a good isp then 1 should be enough.

All together this is looking very promising, you don't need to run a webserver like sabnzbd and its very fast.

I'm not a Usenet expert at all, but I gave this a test drive yesterday on the Just4Today server with a NZB from here. Speeds would stay at zero, then peak to ~350kB/s for a second, then drop to zero again for a few seconds, then peak again, and so on... :dry:

I'll see if 1.6 solves this.

Still the same. :dabs:

ericab

ok getting better....

tried it again.

SSL now works, astra works,

Author:
if you are reading this.
1- Realtime Speed Display
2- Drag and Drop NZB to app
3- Add some vertical separators between the Icon collections

also... the speed fluctuates wildly.
trying it seconds later in altbinz, and its smooth as butter (in other words its not my connection)..

This release candidate should fix the infamous download speed bug.

It does! :)

It is < 2 weeks old, they just have a fast release cycle (Release early, release often (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Release_early,_release_often)) or so it appears.

At this pace, soon it will have earned its place in the popular usenet clients.

Looks good !

Speed's not steady enough though and it's MB/s-kB/s, not Mb/s-kb/s.
The size column uses MB, weird ...

And not being able to choose the installation directory ?
Come on.

But it's easy to use, light, overall I like it

It downloads pars even if you don't need them ??

Couldn't repair something that SABnzbd repaired fine :(

version 2.2 released a bit ago.
progressing steadily.

speeds still fluctuate, but nowhere near as badly.

edit -- just noticed the speed display in the titlebar. why not within the main window ?

needs nzb drag and drop ! !

can we have an option for smaller icons ?

You should post these suggestions in the official UnzBin forum if you haven't already. ;)

Well what to bitch about this app? ...

1. Can't delete parts.
2. Limited features.
3. No percent bar on each part.
4. No 'total' speed.

But it's a small app, I'm sure it'll improve in future updates. Not going to ditch SABnzbd for this in the near future.

chakara

Total speed is in title bar :)

I think it's desinged for people that don't need a lot of features.
I mean I use Sabnzbs but I have no use of :
- RSS
- History
- Scheduling
- Email
- Index site
- Categories
- Sorting

I believe the point of Unzbin is to offer a small apps with limited features to people like me :D

Have you had a look at traditional clients like AltBinz or GrabIt. Features on these two apps are basic but still enough to get you by. The ability to delete a part should be almost standard. Add this feature and this app might be worth talking about.

I've just tried it, and it's indeed developing fast.
Probably it's time to put alt.binz to rest.

NZB files are loaded from the "%appdata%/Unzbin" folder. It must have .import as it's extension.

I don't think they need to add anything else regarding import.

That doesn't sound to handy. I want to be able to drop a normal nzb in a folder I specify just like all the other apps do.

Yah thats just lame, better to save and double click but even that is painful. :ermm: Im sure they will have auto import like all the rest very soon.

I think this got implemented:

* Multi server support
* Enable/Disable individual servers
* Full SSL support
* Multiple downloads
* Prioritize your downloads
* Smart downloading (pause Par files untill needed)
* Pause/Resume/Remove individual parts
* Pause/Resume all downloads
* Sort individual parts
* Automatic validation/repair
* Automatic unpacking of archives to any folder you choose
* Powerful download schedule
* Automated import folder
* RSS/ATOM support + regular expressions + automatic download
* HeapDisQ Technology - Stores downloaded segments in memory instead of disk (internal ram disk)
* Full Yenc support
* UUencode support
* Base64 Support

ANyone get varying speeds?

My max is 150k and it's just hitting 100k. It jumps from 71k, 78k, 16k, 50k, 75k ...

New features I'll like to see is:

Pause pars
Search <- GrabIt has one and I think there was a client that could search BinSearch and NZBIndex.

Steady as a rock over here.

Pars can be paused, check the settings panel.
You can also pause it manually by right clicking on a part :naughty:

I gave it ago a week ago and the minimalist thing didn't work out for me. I I had trouble adding a connection properly. If it had a few more features, that would be great.

I've been using it for a couple weeks and its fine. Just a question. Anyone know if you can clean up the folder naming. I keep getting folders like this, "354-Book of Eli 720p wiki"

It bugs me that the numbers are in front of all the release name. Not a deal breaker but hopefully they fix it.

Stil looking for a newsreader that sips cpu cycles like utorrent. I guess it must be the decoding process they have to use. Even with a 3.2 ghz dual core my cpu is always around 25-30% when downloading.

I used this client for some time now cuz its simple to use but i hate it.When i tried to download multiple files it started to act weird and use all my hdd cache causing it to sound like a tractor and gives auto-extract errors.After trying every program i found that newsleecher is the best with the most useful features and easy to use :)
My opinion.... forget about it until its perfected !!!

To reach perfection it needs many people who try it out and give feeback, don't you think?

snap3r
10-19-2010, 02:39 PM
Its a competition out there and u have other programs to chose from.Why waste time and energy with one that doesn't work properly when there another one that is just perfect ?? :P

Cabalo
10-19-2010, 02:57 PM
Honestly, there aren't perfect clients.
Many of those have strengths and weaknesses. For example, I would gladly switch to unzbin if it had a webUI, which it doesn't. Sabnzbd currently satisfies me, because it excels in this particular option which is paramount for my needs.

snap3r
10-19-2010, 06:49 PM
I forgot to put "for your needs" after perfect.
And Cabalo is right but ofc i just stated my opinion about the program.It drove me nuts at some point so i switch it with another one perfect for me.

Too bad there doesn't seem to be a Linux version. I wouldn't mind giving this small client a spin on my aging computer(guess I could try it under wine but I would rather have a native linux version). Although sabnzbd does just fine. It doesn't bog anything down for me.

zot
10-24-2010, 09:24 PM
Considering that it's written in Dot-Net, don't hold your breath waiting for a Linux port. But then Linux users have a choice of many different clients, including NewsFlash, HelloNZB, NNTPgrab and URD.

dagaul101
11-04-2010, 05:37 PM
Usenet is pretty good for latest updates, but ofcourse the problem with using clients on it is if one particular file is missing, which ruins the entire download
