Old series but still the best Kolchak the Night Stalker http://www.tv.com/kolchak-the-night-stalker/show/2694/summary.html be sure to watch the two made for TV movies first.
Not to be confused with the anemic 2005 remake starring Stuart Townsend.

Only other one worth anything is even older: Night Gallery
