I've got Win98 and planning on downloading Windows XP. This will be done on a shared computer and im worried that something very bad will happen. Does anyone have any tips or advice? Some sort of guide would be a huge help...

Also, is it as simple as d/l it and then double clicking on some sort of setup icon, or will it need to be put onto a disk and run from there?

(Sorry once again for this noob business ;) )

more than likely, burn it to disc. also, try to get win Xp pro corp, it has no activation, otherwise youll be screwed. B)

Thanks :) So if I d/l win Xp pro corp and burn it to a disk, I can just run it as if it was shop bought? Would I need any sort of cracks?

If you get a corporate version, you'll need a volume license key.

What's the difference between corporate and other versions? Also what does this volume license key do?

...any info will be greatly appreciated, as you've probably guessed by now, I know nothing on the subject.

standard retail versions require an activation process to be completed in order to use them for more than 30 days.
There's really no way around it, and you can't use a serial number that anyone else has already activated.

The corporate versions are made for organizations that have to deploy a large number of XP installs, so rather than
making them activate each one, they use a Volume License Key that's given to them by Microsoft when they purchase the licenses.

This will be a 25 character set of numbers & letters. One you input the key at installation time, you'll never need to activate it.

Thanks for the help everyone, just so I've got this straight;

I d/l win Xp pro corp, burn it to a CD as an image file and then install it with a volume key.

Is there anything else I should know?

One last thing.

Is there any chance that someone could post a verified hash for corp? It's been my experience that the files in the "Verified" section are often not. Also, a hash for a volume key would be great.

I've found this version.

Windows_XP_Pro_Corporate_Final.exe (sig2dat:///|File:Windows_XP_Pro_Corporate_Final.exe|Length:516200448 Bytes,504102KB|UUHash:=15732gtVYaQRSA32/1iY2oyCXtU=|)

Under OS is says Windows 2000; does this mean that it can only be installed if your using Win2000?
