Microsoft Works Suite 2001

Someone gave me their Microsoft Works Suite 2001 discs, and I'm ready to install it, but I'm a little concerned about using their CD key. Does it register/verify like Microsoft XP does? I don't want to use their Cd Key and end up locking out their version when they try to use it.
If anyone knows, please let me know.

no you fine to install it, just dont register with microsoft, you can update it manually by just going to windows update site and downloading any patches ya self ;)

Well said M$ dont see anything, and nothing gets sent, its illagle. I think. Anyhow you are OK. :D
