Hi,

This may be a really silly question, one that normally I would just ignore but people keep uploading things from me that are not in my shared folder.

The latest example is..

ACDSee 5.5b

The filename is ACDSee 5.5b.exe and its size is 185Kb

I have Kazaa Lite ++ Version 2.4.1

I dont even know what that is, it certainly isnt in my shared folder and I dont think its anywere on my PC.

Its happend a couple of times over the past few days

Could somebody please shed some light on the matter.

Thanks in advance.

ACDSee is a digital photo software and photo viewer. Have you tried downloading this on Kazaa in the last while or installed???

No I have never heard or attempted to download that at all.

Its happend a couple of times with several things, that is only one example. I have searched my computer and cannot find it.

I only have videos and songs in my shared folder, this file is an .exe

Strange... well, time to hand this one over to the experts. I don't know if it's possible for others to upload files to your computer without your knowledge...

Sorry couldn't be more help...

Doesn't sound like a virus... as Wiz said above, it could be hidden in your folders.

and why don't you have protection, I suggests you close down your computer and walk away slowly, take up stamps or gardening

or if you want to learn, get AVG (http://www.grisoft.com) or any av software and run 24/7, also look into getting a firewall, I like zone alarm (http://www.zonealarm.com) both have free versions and are pretty simple to get going

From what I have explained I understand why you would think that.

But its saying they are downloading a .exe file. As far as I am aware I have no .exe files in any of my shared folders.

I only have songs and videos (117), all in which end with .mp3 or .wmv

I think i'll just let it go, afterall people downloading things off me which i dont have surely cant be to harmfull...can it?. lol

am only 15 so dont really understand much about pc's in general, I can make websites (www.stars4everton.tk), and download things thats about it  . Am trying to find out what Bit Torrent is, and what all these things do like K-Dat, K-Sig and Supernode.

I do scan for virus' with housecalls online scanner once every so many months if thats any consolation.

some things arrive in your shared folder as part of an archive file. (zip, arc, lhz, rar. etc)

open an archive and (certainly for games, well any software) you'll get all sorts of *.exes.

If they are being uploaded from you it's coz someone has searched for a missing/needed file and found you first.

Anyhoo why not google ACDsee, coz it's just digital camera software

Oh and check your settings, you may be sharing more than your shared folder

(though that's not really an issue, it's quite safe)

do yourself a big favour and get a virusscanner now (avg) and while your at it get a firewall (sygate) bothof those are free to download and pretty easy to configure :)
