I know several of you have boxes with full root access, and one of the advantages is that you can install any software you like. I'm curious as to whether any of you came up with creative uses for your box.

Currently mine has:

-rtorrent/libtorrent/rutorrent
-mktorrent
-Webhosting
-HTTP downloading
-ZNC (an IRC bouncer)
-a customized IRC bot
-irssi
-SSH tunneling
-OpenVPN
-full scripting functionality with perl, ruby, python, and java
-music transcoding FLAC/MP3
-at times I've used it to run dedicated gaming servers

I'm curious to see what others do with their dedicated servers.

Install a WoW private server, rent out slots to friends to test raids/builds without wasting their actual ones, pay for the seedbox when I want another one.

Otherwise, usually just host a private website where I dump some random designs I'm doodling with, see how they look like on the web. I'm no professional web designer, but I do enjoy coming up with concepts. Dreamweaver generally gets the job done well in WYSIWYG mode, but it's never been too functional. CS5 nearly automates that, though, so I won't be doing that anytime soon.

I sparingly use them as online storage too.

Currently running

-Mumble server
-rtorrent+rutorrent
-irc server + services (Unreal + Anope)
-eggdrop
-webserver, mysql, openssl (https)
-zbnc
-icecast server

looking for a nice streaming solution to it also.
