I have got a question

Cuz, my Dad heard yesterday on the radio, that bill gates had protected his software on a way nobody knew:

Ones you download a patch or an update for windows XP, it makes you compter go fucked up...

Can annybody tell me if this is true or not, and if it is, how you can protect yourself against it...

THNX!!

Yes that is the srange thing, it sounds possible, but i can't find it annywhere. Nobody talks about it, nothing.

Very strange..

So isn't it possible, that this still happens, but now you don't know it...

yes of course and if you noticed it or not would depend on how open minded you were and how good you could solve problems.....amoung other things
the trub is most ppl go around with their eyes closed so you wont find to many that will agree that software companys do it

theyll keep uninstalling and reinstalling software updateing and useing the cracks patchs etc on the same software but never put the 2 together....

(cracks and patchs and serials is another way they can get ya)

since installing patch for blaster worm (which i had a theory that microsoft invented them selves! to fix prob you had to connect to microsoft so anyone with dodgy version would be recognized)
my internet explorer keeps on shuting down whenever i try to download any film from bitorrent or when i try to play a movie with videolan i have norton system works and norton firewall 2003 ,have scanned for viruses =none but firewall keeps on telling me that somebody is trying to acces my computer using back door trojon.
anyway i agree with the person who started this post and thats my theory ;)

There wouldn't be so much piracy of XP if Microsoft would cut the cost down. Jesus Christ $189.00 for the home edition and $299.00 for the Professional edition. Who knows what the corporate edition costs? Those prices are TOO much for most people. Damn, that's almost 1/3 the price of my PC. You don't actually own XP, you just buy a license to use it. There's something wrong there.

No wonder why countries (and businesses) like China and Korea are switching their OS to LINUX. Linux is catering to oriental languages, and Microsoft is not that popular for foriegn languages, such as those. Also, Linux is cheaper, more stable and requires one license for multiple computers. You can download RedHat for FREE! And it is legal. For a small price, you can upgrade to the deluxe version.

That's really great.

What a great way to speak to a kid, well done!

You must be really proud of yourself. <_<

To the original poster. Don't worry. If what your father were describing were true, this board would be full of people talking about it.

If you're worried about it, don't install any updates (disable automatic updates and visit windows update) without checking this board first to see whether anyone has reported any problems. Most of the posters on this board are using pirated copies of Windows, so any breaking news would be reported here very quickly.

although this is the lounge, yet the topic may fit my comments:

Turn on ur firewall and enable logging, if u see incoming logs too many source IPs as 0.0.0.0, followed by an incoming event from 12.129.147.10 or others related to the DC area for port 49320 then outgoing, again, packets from 0.0.0.0 to the destination IP

then u may have a problem. this case is rare, yet it occured to me not too long ago (nothing went out to them).

This is neither to say M$ does or does not mess YOUR pc.
