What is the worst anti virus you have ever used ?
http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/7610/wtc2v7.png (http://img685.imageshack.us/i/wtc2v7.png/)
McAfee is the worst I've ever seen.
It slowed down my computer horribly every time it did a scan or updated.

But

What's the point in getting a legal anti-virus program that will work for a year only?
Just wondering...:whistling

Well I must say Norton, back in days it use to catch no virus and made the system damn busy./
Lately them have improvised there technology,
still I will never get back to them.

I had Norton some time ago and I concur it used to be damn slow. As I remember, Kaspersky was not big deal too. Recently I have some experience with Avast! – same like Norton. In contrast with these encounters I was pretty much satisfied with NOD.

Norton and Symantec, I haven't used them for over 5 yrs so maybe they are better now with the new technology os etc
But i can remember putting norton on then while it was scanning i got infected and it removed some stuff out of my system 32 folder which in turn gave me a bsod
Symantec was just slow and heavy on the cpu.
I'll stick with the free version of avira-2yrs and counting.

fucking Nod32

What was so bad about it?

I must admit I'm not a huge fan of nod32, as the last time I used it (around a year ago) it would start before windows and take a long time.
It sort of took away from the performance of my machine.

I mean, its no where near as bad a norton, but I most likely wouldn't use it again.

Slickerey

Worst ones I've tried out are AVG and Norton...

I never used any of the newer versions of NOD32. They became crapware IMO.

I stuck to NOD32 v2.7 until I decided to try Avira... I don't have any regrets. :happy:

Symantec/Norton's gotta be the worst. Slow, bloated, and enough of a pain to remove that you end up thinking "Maybe it'd just be quicker to format". Plus, how many companies make software that has it's own removal tool, not counting spyware makers?

These days, it almost seems there are more bad scanners than good. Rogue scanners display false virus alerts, with instructions to buy the "full version" in order to remove the fictional infections. Wasting your hard-earned dollars on a bogus product isn't the only thing you need to worry about. There have been multiple reports from folks who fell for the scam only to end up with credit card charges much higher than expected - and often a series of fraudulent charges continue to appear on their statements. Victims typically encounter rogue scanners in one of three ways:

# Email scams disguised as greeting cards or breaking news alerts;
# Advertisements that offer a free scan or system tune-up;
# Compromised websites retrofitted to exploit software vulnerabilities.

You can help mitigate your risk of exposure by reading email in plain text only and avoid clicking links or opening attachments in email received unexpectedly - even if it comes from someone you know. Stick with the good guys: for a free online scan, use one of these top online scanners. Keep your system patched to prevent exploit.

I have tried macfee norton synaptec kaspersky micorsoft security essentials all recently new releases and I dont like having any. they all cause bad computer slowdowns and I still have had problems with viruses and junk with them. When i had protection it was like having a radar detector i thought i could push the limit and I still got caught out. So now I run bareback and just pay attention to the portals i dip my tool into. So the worst is having one and the best is using your brain and asking is it a good idea to d/l this. if this was a girl that was rumored to hav the herp would it still be worth the risk... and sometimes when i'm desparate i click anyway and yes it ends up in an aw F, time to reformat.

I got hit with MS AntiSpyware 2009 virus about 2 months ago, and it, completely got by Norton. I spend 2 days trying to fix it up, what a waste of time. I tried a couple of free av trials, but they couldn't find it. The Cyberdefender free trial did find it, but I had to pay to fix it. So I did since it was about $40 to get the full version, which is about what it costs for others. It also came with a money back guarantee, so I figured to try it.

Anyway, it fixed some of the issues but not all, and since it comes with a 24 x 7 call center, I called it and they were really helpful. They told me that since I installed the software after I got the virus that they would need to fix it by remote access. 5 minutes later it was done and the system was clean.

Since then I have gotten a pop-up every now and then saying something is attacking my computer, and I click the button and it is blocked. Easy to use and I am happy with it. It does seem that it is really for non-technical users like myself, so some of the more experienced user may want something else. JMHO.
