The scariest game....

What's the scariest game you ever played?
And why?

For me it would be Thief: The Dark Project. The game had so much atmosphere... wonderful sound effects (they were an important part of the game) and since you weren't all-powerful you had to sneak around in the the shadows, trying to avoid people - or things - that you did not want to be discovered by.
I remember the level called The Haunted Cathedral with zombies, apparitions and so-called Haunts - headphones on, lights off - at one point I had to take a break from playing because my heart rate was going up way too fast :p

Ever played Thief 3? Sorry, Thief: Deadly Shadows? Shalebridge Cradle is the most awesomely scariest level EVER.

System Shock 1/2 are also deliciously terrifying games. Innssssect. :ph34r:

Yes I played Thief 3... wasn't the best game in the series IMHO, but the Shalebridge Cradle - wow! :D or should that be, well, I couldn't find a terrified emoticon :P

You're right, System Shock is also scary - made by the same developer, makes sense I guess! RIP Looking Glass games.

Well, one serie of games that I just can't play is Silent Hill... those games are crazy... the last one I tried was Silent Hill 3... The game wasn't that scary but the cameras and controls were killing me :sick:

Fear 2 had its moments and I won't forget Demon's Souls for ps3... That game is "scary" in its own way! :blink:

For me d scariest of them all was FEAR. Its really an awesum game with many twists & turns which messes with the players mind & scares them out of their wits;)

Yeah m8 u r right Silent Hill sucks. I played the first one & realised i had wasted my precious time dealing with this crap. Though it has got a plot, the gameplay just makes u puke & REMOVE this game from ur pc:frusty:

The Fatal Frame series is kind of eerie.
Also, Dead Space, Bioshock (not scary overall, but has jumpy moments), and the old Clocktower Series (not anymore, but scared me shitless when I was young)

ohh man and the first System Shock did a number on me as a boy!

Silent Hill 4 scared me a lot too, I remember one part there were two dogs in the hallway of an abandoned subway station. I went up to them thinking they were friendly and all of a sudden they let out a shriek and attacked me. I nearly had a fucking heart attack!

i must say that sometimes when i played silent hill 1 years ago i got scared many times, same with resident evil 3 something those zombies or crows would break a window and surprise me, but right now maybe f.e.a.r 2 i played it very late at night and i really scares sometimes O_O

That really happens. Graphics do all the difference when it comes to gaming experience! That's why I avoid playing some games when I can't run it the right way with my computer and that's why I'll probably play Crysis again in 10 to 15 years! =P
