Put that along with no rules and you'll see why people love them.

The only thing I really hate about public trackers are the anti=piracy groups waiting to send out copyright infringement notices...

You'll find all kinds of stuff which is the main advantage. Cons are slower speed, more people will be leeching your bandwidth away, and the chances of getting an isp copyright infringement notice go through the roof for popular warez.

Avoid new stuff like CAM's and movies that aren't even in theaters yet and you'll be good.

What you can't do that on private trackers? :O When was this decided? I hit and run like a motherfucker on TL and SCC and other various places.

Pros:
More Content
No Rules
Anonymity methods are allowed, no account needed

Cons:
Shitty quality content
Fakes/Viruses
Shitty speeds on the more obscure stuff you can't find on private sites in the first place
Shitty retention on all but the most popular content
Anti-P2P groups actively send out letters rather than just monitoring you
Idiots that HnR, cheat, don't seed back, etc aren't weeded out.

90% just don't give a shit as long as you have a buffer. It's the funny truth.

no fear of getting your account disabled due to inactivity, one of the biggest advantage according to me.

Who needs to cheat on a public tracker if they don't keep track of ratios or don't care about them?

People who use that fun "turn off your torrent's seeding capability" thing.

That's outright leeching, not cheating.

on popular torrents, it wont matter at all. But on less popular ones, it hurts the swarm in the long run..well, thats my take on it. Wont be discussing ethics of file sharing coz I don't have time for a prolonged discussion.
So, to each his own. Lets just leave it at that.

Another great advantage of the public sites: you don't have to deal with some power hungry kiddies who get erections when they disable some account.

if your client have low ratio, and you need to sehow a client proof for rediving good private trackes, you can alwais upload in your maximum speed in popular torrents.

Yes, specially packs or compilations. Sometimes I wish seeding on certain private sites was that easy.

You probably would avoid most e-drama, and your time would be better spent in the long run in your life if you use public trackers. And you avoid the e-penis battle too, because you wouldn't hear how his TPB is more l33t than her Mininova account, or how he got an account while you don't. And then maybe you don't have so much trouble for both tracker and user because rule breaking (i.e. trading) wouldn't exist.

The only decent half-public site is Demonoid. Everything else pales in comparison to private trackers.

Less e-drama, no rules, good for getting something "on the fly" without ratio considerations and the like.

In theory, private trackers are worse for anonymity since they have a username with records of everything you have ever downloaded, uploaded, your IP address(es), email etc. etc. where as this information can be easily manipulated or is not present on public trackers. Hop on a VPN and you're set.
