View Full Version : Another Reason Not To Trust Windows Media Player

I happened to be using WMP7, so I guess I'm lucky. Anyway, when I tried to play a downloaded (and corrupted) file, it kept trying to open up some sort of link apparently having to do with DRM. Is my assumption correct that this is just a warning. The webpage took forever to load, so I deleted the file and closed the webpage. I've had to manually remove WMP7 since it refused to install itself and I am using Windows ME (yes, the OS is a nightmare). My question is, was this DRM thing simply a warning? I tried searching the FAQ and search feature and got no help from those.

Install should be Uninstall

Sounds like there was a script embedded in the file - nothing to do with WMP.
I believe you can disable scripts in the WMP.

Not defending Micro$oft in any way, though.

Not really.

It sounds more like a protected music file. WMP lets you rip files so you can only play the files with the required licences. You computer of course didn't have this licence to play the file, so thats why it opened the web browser.

It's not that WMP is a bad player, it's just that someone didn't know how to rip a music cd right.

any file you download ripped as a wma instead of wav or mp3, ogg etc will take you to that page. it's just a warning. there are apps that can re-encode wma to mp3's.

I had that happen once, so I just try to avoid wma's altogether now.

DRM is supported by zeropaid and vice versa. the founder of zeropaid works with DRM and so do the admins of zeropaid.

Look when i joined this forum <_< Long before i discovered es5. which was about 6-7 months later.

I am not an es5 fanboy, i like to think that i am a permanent member of this community.

I just consider all my options, and es5 is a great option.

I've read all that stuff on es5, so what if the some of the guys there work making DRM, most of the crap that sharepro went on about was rubbish and it didnt stop them from advertising on there.
i'm not saying zeropaid is pure as the driven white snow but how can es5 accuse zeropaid of logging IP address for the purpose of checking there files and what not, when they have proven themselves to be deceitful liers puting remote code into the application, spamming every forum out there, lieing about user numbers, saying k-lite and KMD had spywear reporting back to the RIAA, ddos bittorent sites and threating RN and his family with Physical Violence.

While the case agaist Zeropaid is flimsy at best, Es5 have been proven to be the Shonks that they are.

The last straw for me at ES5 was HERE (http://www.sharemation.com/realitysponge/Danger%20do%20not%20use%20ES5%20(Page%2055).mht).

Kab if your still using ES5 for safety reasons like all that proxy cream they offer for those that are paranoid or because it is supposedly faster than other apps you use, then PLEASE PM me and I will be more than happy to advice you on much safer and faster apps that are out there if you are willing to dump ES5 if they are better.

Truth is ES5 is not trust worthy and have shown their true face to us all. I would concider you still a fellow member here, though slightly brainwashed by a cheap vacum cleaner salesman, so I would be more than willing to show you the light. I know you have been a member here a long time and are there as well, as I was as well, but its time to face...

REALITY.
