is there a program that will take out the little arrows on shorcut icons?

Yes there is you can either download TweakUI off of microsoft.com or download the handy icon editer microangelo which should come with ondisplay which can do all sorts of stuff including take shortcut arrows.

or just use the original .exe's for shortcuts, doing this there is no arrow

i've heard that having shortcuts (icons with arrows) uses a little memory or something, but i don't know. if it's true removing the arrows wouldn't change that.
