During the WWDC today, Steve Jobs announced a new iPhone 4. It has an all new sleek glass and metal (doubles as an antenna) design.

After a series of leaked prototypes, people have been trying to figure out the exact specifications of the new iPhone and now that it has been officially released in San Francisco on Monday, people should be happy now.

The iPhone 4 Features:

960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi
4x the pixels
24% slimmer design from the 3GS
Multitasking
HD video capability (720p) @ 30fps
5MP camera with selective tap-to-zoom and LED flash
Extended battery life
16 and 32 GB versions
...and more (http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html#footnote-2)

UPDATE: Preorders will begin June 15. The first shipments will be June 24. If your contract expires any time in 2010, you are immediately eligible for the update offer. :)

Any idea what the cost will be with a new contract for one of these compared with a 3g/3gs?
I'm looking at getting an iPhone, but can wait if the price of this won't be too outrageous.

Been reading about it here (http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20006866-260.html?tag=contentMain;contentBody) a while back as well.

Found the Wifi crashing bit to be a bit entertaining XD

10:41 a.m.: Now he's showing us The New York Times, though the connection is hanging a bit. "The networks are always kind of unpredictable in here. If you're on Wi-Fi, if you could just get off, I'd appreciate it," he says.

10:42 a.m.: "I don't know what's wrong with our networks," Jobs says. He's silent for a bit. But now he's going to try some back ups, he tells us.

10:42 a.m.: His phone says "Cannot activate cellular networks," to some laughs from the crowd. "Well geez. I guess I can't show you that much today. I can show you some pictures."

10:44 a.m.: He shows us the difference in picture quality. He's trying the phone demo again. "I'm sorry guys, I don't know what's going on." "Got any suggestions?" he asks. Someone shouts "Verizon." Jobs says, "We're actually on Wi-Fi here."

10:44 a.m. (Kent German): With the connection issue I wouldn't want to be the AT&T rep in the crowd.

All in all though it looks like quite a significant update from the previous Iphone. Wonder how much the Iphone leak affected it, they took some pretty drastic measures on Gizmodo.

And anything Apple thinks up of now has to look good compared to the Ipad.

Tesco: Not sure about the non upgrade prices, but I always find that the heavy charges that accompany the required data plan to be of much more significance than the price of the phone itself. Something you should consider.

What is this, modly stereotyping? :snooty: I will not be associated with the large candidan presence on this board.

I have built my entire life principals upon hating candidans with every fiber of my being. True story.

I'm looking at getting an iPhone, but can wait if the price of this won't be too outrageous.

I posted this in the $20 fred, but here it is again:

If you're eligible for an upgrade or just a new customer, the cost is $199 for the 16GB and $299 for the 32GB.

If you're just picking one up, it'll probably be $399 and $499 but I don't think that's been announced yet.

I got the 3GS 16GB right when it was released last year for $199 and sold my 2G iPhone on eBay for $209, so that worked out nice. I'm considering buying the this new 32GB version but not sure if I want to fork over $499. I'll either get on the pre-order list on June 15 or wait a year for the next one.

The 3GS has just dropped to $99, so there's that also. (I guess they want to make sure all the retailers can sell out of them before the new phone hits) It's a great phone. I fucking enjoy the shit out it. Do not go with the 2G or 3G though; the 3GS is far superior.

Same here, I'm running the latest "iOS 4" beta on my 3GS (iOS 4 Gold Master Candidate) and it's boss..can't wait for the official release of it on June 21st. :D

Here's the video:

thx for the vid. that video is a high selling point. i've always been intrigued by this iphone business, but could care less at the same time. i LOVE the video phone calls, but once again the mf'ers u call gotta have that crap too and i don't see that being used for quite some time. the 720p video recording is pretty pimp and much more i'm sure, but imo 4-5 bills + tax just isn't worth it to me. i have a phone to call ppl. i have a PC to do the other shit. plus, i'm sure my psp2 will do everything else on the go anyway. thx sony.

"I'm sorry guys, I don't know what's going on,"
he said to the crowd of developers and media.
"Got any suggestions?" he asked.
Someone from the back helpfully
shouted, "Verizon!" Though the crowd laughed,
Jobs took it in stride. He said simply,
"We're actually on Wi-Fi here."

LOL, gotta love the guy who yelled "Verizon!" AT&T sucks!

Here are the capped data plan for those not on the unlimited plans...

DataPlus $15 a month and limited to 200 megabytes of data. If you exceed it, your overlimit penalty is $15, good for an additional 200 megabytes.
DataPro $25 a month gets you just 2 gigabytes of data. The overlimit penalty for those exceeding it is $10 which buys an additional 1 gigabyte of usage.

I would call that robbery... 200MB and 2GB.. yeah right... on the network with the most dropped calls... the worst customer service.. phone might be nice but what good is a Ferrari with three wheels?

"Robbery"?

I live on my iPhone. I am on it and using it incessantly, and I've never used 2GB of data in a month that I'm aware of. Here is my recent useage over the past few months, just for reference:

http://i48.tinypic.com/2lvk6ya.jpg

There is also only an unlimited plan. There has never been any other. Only yesterday did they officially announce that there would now be a two tiered data plan. However, all of the current iPhone users like myself, will not be affected. If we so choose, we can keep our unlimited plans for life. Only new customers will be required to select one of the aforementioned data packages, both of which are less expensive than we have been paying all along ($30/month).

The new $25/month package (DataPro) provides for 2GB of data a month. "Enough to send/receive 10,000 emails (no attachments), send/receive 1,500 emails with attachments, view 4,000 Web pages, post 500 photos to social media sites and watch 200 minutes of streaming video." That's a shit-ton of internet useage for a cell phone.

I don't see what the fuss is all about. The only people I can imagine that go over the 2GB monthly limit are people who download a lot of podcasts.

To be fair it's not Job's fault, unlike the BSoD error Gates had trouble with when he was demoing Plug and Play on Win98.

That's what you get for connecting to an unsecured Wifi spot at a release :P.

Ehh dude get one and then judge. Even the iOS 4 is snappier than <4.0. They've got some new features which they've pretty much ripped off the homebrew scene.

Wallpaper - Winterboard
Organise apps - Categories

That's all I've noticed just mucking around with the dev BETA.

iphone 4 is overhyped especially on the so called retina display. Actually is just a higher resolution screen using a fancy name.

Who needs an iPhone when you have the Droid Incredible?

It's a matter of preference.

Years ago, I would only buy Samsung phones. I didn't like Nokia's interface and so I stuck to what I liked. Same is true with the iPhone.

I recognized that there are other phones that perform similar functions. I don't know what the Incredible does as I've never even heard of it, but a co-worker has the new Sprint EVO 4G and it rocks. I just love the big screen it has. I'm not going to switch my service over however as I like the iPhone. For all intents and purposes the phones do the same thing but I like the iPhone. Love it actually.

Seeing as how the iPhone is the bar in what is expected from a mobile phone these days, and that Apple has sold over 85 million iPhone OS devices, I fail to see how it is "overhyped, overpriced, underperforming apple product".

wow.. nice :D how much??

Load of shit? I have the new iPhone as well as a girl friend of mine. Neither of us have any reception problems. I do recognize that there are people who do have problems, to which I'd say to ask for a refund or replacement phone.

Maybe this would help their argument:

Then you'd still need to worry about the proximity sensor (http://www.pcworld.com/article/200024/another_apple_iphone_4_flaw_a_glitchy_proximity_sensor.html).

I've actually heard that it could actually be a problem with Iphones in general, and how the new iOS4 handles signal disturbances (or something like that).

Iphone 3 users who upgraded to the new iOS also experienced the same issues.

The problem of reception is caused by short circuit the two antenna. As long as you holding the iphone without short circuit both antenna, it's fine.

Apple recommend their customers to buy $30 bumper to solve the problem:w00t:
