Does anybody have a Western Digital TV Live Media Player? and have you been able to stream a HD film over a wireless connection from your PC?

The WD TV appears to be the best/cost effective solution to playing a variety of HD file formats on the telly. So the options are to plug an external HHD into it or get the Live version and stream the content.

I like the idea of streaming the files, but am unsure if it will be possible. Any of you have advice or experiences to share?

This is probably best answered on the WDTV help site. I know other devices can do it cause they sell the dongles to go along with them. But if WD supports wireless streaming, they will probably have a list of supported devices you can use, and firmware updates that might add more.

The WD Live has two usb slots, and typically for updating the firmware they tell you not to have any other USB device attached, and plug a flash player with the firware on it into the back USB. Therefore if you have no HDD attached I suppose the wireless device would have to plug in the back, not the side.

I have a wired network, so I haven't had to rely on the wireless, but I've heard from others who have and they report no problems at all. There's a list of compatible adapters on the WD web site.

Do I??? I'm like the biggest proponent of the WDTV Live. I have tried to run it wirelessly and have only had limited success using wireless N. Still sometimes it would skip, lag or have out of sync audio and I got tired of it so I run it over my network now and keep all my movies on a server. Downloading to the server and then playing on my WDTV live. ATM there are 3 of them in my house so that my sister and mother in-laws can watch what they want "on demand". It's a really great setup. Also I HIGHLY recommend the B-Rad firmware (http://b-rad.cc/wdlxtv-live/) ;) More options and in my experience it has sped up the remote responsiveness and played better both wirelessly and wired.

It's actually pretty doable. You can even stream not ripped blu-ray files. There's problems with only blu-ray iso's.
