Bloddy Hell. These are absolutely amazing!! I've been using Windows Classic for about a month having got tired with ALL XP themes. These however are really proffesional looking, grown up themes, absolutely amazing. I cannot get over how cool this metal theme is. :lol:

The artist is called b0se, here (http://b0se.deviantart.com/)'s his page at deviantART. I'd recommend actually checking out all of his work, it's all great. I particularly love these two though.

Glad to spread the word Sparsely. ;) It's really nice with the blue taskbar and normal menu. Check out the metal theme as well though, it looks even better in the flesh. :)

I always loved the Mac GUI. I tryed remodeling my windows XP to look like MacOSX. It looked kinda nice. :P

To get these themes to work, you have to have StyleXP or the free patch.

You can download the patch at: http://www.lightstar1.com/install.htm

Just have a look around for it. You'll find it. That site is also good for themes.

Ok i got some themes from the site you said at the top of this topic, but i cant use em, ive got style xp but when i go to add new theme it cant find the .theme file or .msstyles file bit, any help please.

P.S im trying to use the aquagirl theme.

Did you unzip them to your Windows > resources > themes Folder ?

If you unzipped them to Windows>Resources>Themes Style XP should pick them up !

It is actually peices of three different LightStar1.com themes.

All available here (http://www.lightstar1.com/).

The visual style is called "Deep Six". (found in themes section)
The wallpaper is "SoftBlue". (found in wallpaper section)
And the user icon is from another theme called "Forever Blue2". (found in themes section).

The icon set can only be applied using icon packager and is called "bpxpb" by Zodiaq~. You can easily find it at WinCustomize's Icon Packager page (http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=2).

I topped it off using PA Tumi's "WinBlue" cursor set.

all you need to do is download style xp (http://www.tgtsoft.com/prod_sxp.php), install that

then download a theme from any theme website (themexp.org (http://www.themexp.org/) is v good)

follow the steps that should be included in the readme of the theme and it will tell you where to install it (normally C:/windows/resources/themes)

style xp should them pick up the theme and you are ready to apply the theme :)

Thanks for that mate. I actually have that one, and while it's reall cool, it's not quite what i'm looking for. You see, the theme i'm using is more of a plate metal. And i'd like something similarly minimalist, with this brushed steel sort of look. I do appreciate the link though my friend.:)

When I first got WinXP there were seriously little resources such as themes on the net so I've been leaving it alone.
Until this thread.
I've not been well (just a cold/headache/sore throat), fell asleep around 10 last night and woke up about 2AM. After popping to Tescos while it's actually not heaving with other customers, I noticed this thread and have just finished piddling around with my XP X-Perience. It's 7:50.

I personally dont bother w/ themes cuz they eat resources. I got only 256 ram so ... I even made my XP classic and reoved all the stupid sounds. I like my XP optimized ..

Here's a guide on what is needed to install those phat toolbars (http://www.lightstar1.com/install.htm). :)

I recommend the UXtheme patch, be sure to follow the instructions. Once you've done this, extract any themes or visual styles to windows>resources>themes. You can now select downloaded themes from the display properties dialogue.

@Metrostars. I really don't understand why you're still using Windows Blinds. Please can any windows blinds users explain to me what, in their opinion, is the advantage of running this application. Sure if you're using 98 or 2000, then i could understand, but with XP? I just don't see the point.

i just like windowblinds, in my opinion it's a gr8 program, i don't find my computer running any slower with WB... i also luv the choice of themes u get from wincustomize...

its the toolbar that is in the folder with the metal theme from that guy on deviantART you know its the safari or wahtever toolbar or the itunes either one. . . im just having trouble trying to figure how to change my regular toolbar to the itunes one..

The tool bar is called YZ dock and is available here (http://www.designtechnika.com/main/modules.php?modid=1&action=cat&id=3)

If you had read the text file included with the theme you would have found this out yourself. It then took me 10 seconds with google for me to find you that link :P

The files you have been trying to install are, in fact, theme files. When you install YZ dock, there'll probably be a text file telling you how to install the themes.

no, its not.
the creator of this had some problems with apple, so the distributin of Y's dock has stopped. the versions available is full of bugs.

your link was to Y's toolbar, but thanks anyway, works great ;)

I tried object dock, but that thing is just shit to customize!! didn't work to "drag and drop", remove icons one doesn't like, etc.

BTW, is it not possible to make the Y's toolbar buttons in IE bigger?

Could someone please answer this for me: where to should I exract a .xptheme file that contains cursors?

I am trying to change my cursors to match the theme, but I can't get them out of that damn .xptheme folder.
and I don't want to change the entire theme I already have.. please help..

Exactly what sort of "XP theme" files are we speaking of here?

The windows theme file for XP itself, should go into: C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes .

If we are speaking of an .msstyles file then I suggest placing it along with any .dll shell files you may have received into a seperate folder of the same name as your your .msstyles file. Place this new folder into the same WINDOWS directory. If you have done this correctly, you should see it appear on your "appearance" tab in "display properties".

If the theme is truely complete, then a wallpaper should have also been supplied. That can placed within the theme folder you just created as well. Any fonts supplied should go into C:\WINDOWS\Resources\fonts .

The cursors must be handled seperately. Extract them all into C:\WINDOWS\cursors . Make certain that they are not within their own folder before you extract/unzip. You can apply them afterwards by going into control panel>printers and other hardware>mouse>pointers . Select them from the drop down bar.

After all this is done you can then "save your current theme" in "display properties" afterwhich the cursor set will automatically be applied when you select this theme.

Maybe i'm just getting old, but i really don't like these bold chunky themes. Dapadiz' i quite like, but your theme Burre, to me, looks horrible. That's just my opinion though. I'm still happily using Opus metal by b0se.

Actually, I sent a screenshot to a friend, he said the same. but when he visited, he thought it looked awesome. I used the opus metal, clean style first, but since I use a 100" screen in my home cinema, this looks way better than opus metal. the structure didn't come to rights when it was stretched to 200 cm wide.+ it doesn't look "too much" in my case.it's actually very spacy. Also this matches the rest of the room/furniture, except I will change some colors to make all colours like the one in the start menu.

The only thing thou mate is i always have the taskbar up,but it looks tacky on the new theme.If you look at the top half,its a differnet shade and not sure straight as in the pic.

What i'm going to tri and do is use my taskbar with your skin..and i should ne on it.

Shell style for what? If it's for windows, then it needs to go windows\resources\themes. If you're using windows blinds, ignore what i said, i don't know if that's the case or not.

The calendar is a great little app called rainlendar (http://vapaa.dc.inet.fi/~rainy/Rainlendar.html). There are hundreds of skins available and it only takes 3 megs of memory, ok unless you don't have much ram.

Where did you download from?

You should have version 3.0. The windows default installer should suffice for set-up, if I am not mistaken.

yeah i tried Aston. but it sucked up so much memory that the computer became un-usable, so i canned it. i was leary about the port of blackbox to windows, but from what i can see the guys who ported it did a fantastic job.

512 megs is ok, but you should consider getting at least another 512 to make it at least a gig of ram. That is of course if your box can handle a simple gig of ram. Most modern pc can take about 4 times what it came with straight out the factory.

yours may be extendable to a gig or more I dont know.
Whatever the case, with a decent processor, (or in my case, dual processors) you can never have "too much" ram B)

That particular pc is a alienware mj-12 and mj-12 boxes are typically for developing and multimedia creation.

Most people know that multimedia creation can take up a lot of processor speed and memory so thats wht this pc has dual intel xeon processors and so much ram. But seeing as how I bought it I feel I can use it for whatever I want and that may be anything from a desktop to a workstation, or server.

It varies. I have other boxes that I use for server now so I just use this as a workstation.

You cant really tell the difference unless your running like 20 or so programs in the background and dont notice any performance issues at all.

Oh and by the way, If anybody has ever noticed that when some programs cause a computer to crash or be unresponsive its because that one app that is not responding has eaten all the memory and so it crashes. Well that probably wont ever happen to me on this computer right here. Too much ram to go around. :)

This is total crap. I think that beta is an undercover ploy to fuck up peoples version of style xp that is cracked.

I installed it on my cracked version and 2.0 keeps asking me for a serial and telling me to register.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and I cleaned out the registry and it still keeps asking me for a serial.

This sucks.................Im pissed! :angry:

Never mind. I fixed it. Well............sort of.

I just installed the old version back and took all the new themes from 2.o and used them for the old one. Works fine.

thats all I wanted was the new themes anyway. And I could not find thoose new themes anywhere but in 2.0. But now there in my 1.?? whatever version.

Well, I guess I dont see the harm in adding a little spice to xp. After this post was started I saw some pretty neat looking themes on here so I decided to them my xp box "only" :rolleyes:

Besides that classic was getting really really old. And I still have classic on my win2k box anyway.

Btw, I would never theme linux,well maybe once every 6 months or so, besides the system standard themes that are already included in some of the desktops like kde, gnome, and icewm.

And I know a lot of people are indeed theme junkies. They need a new theme everyday like a fix. Before you know it someone will come out with one of those proggies like the desktop wallpaper changer. Only with this you add all your themes and your theme changes every hour or so. :lol: If I ever get to that point, just shoot me.

A couple days later, I got bored with it and repaired it with the best tool MS ever came out with.

Reinstalled 98SE, Win2k advanced, Mandrake 9.1, and a bunch of dos stuff in VMware.
Much happier now :)

I do not see anything truely "mind-blowing" about v2.0 myself so far. Other than the included exclusive themes that is. The icon addition seems shakey at best, and I really do not look for much support for it at ThemeXP.org among icon authors who normally prowl the Stardock scene. And I attempted to play alittle with the boot screen features and became somewhat alarmed when XP's file protection system suddenly set off shockwaves at me. I made me nervous real fast. So far no real improvements- not even the one improvement I myself was hoping for... the two mini "start menu" screens becoming skinned to match the rest of your theme. :(

If you have v1.01, stick with it unless you are a "theme junkie".
