There are three major enhancements included in Symantec AV 8.1:
Support for 64-bit editions of Windows
- With Symantec AV 8.1, the essentials of the program - the scanning
engine, the event handler, and Realtime Protection, run in native 64-bit
mode.
Support for NetWare Secure Console
- Symantec AV 8.1 now has support for NetWare Secure Console. To install
Symantec AV 8.1 to a NetWare server with Secure Console, read the
document How to configure Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.1
for NetWare Secure Console.
Content licensing management for Symantec Client Security SB Edition
- Symantec Client Security 1.1 includes tools for managing content
licenses for Symantec AV 8.1 and Symantec Client Firewall 5.0. For more
information, read the document Introduction to Symantec Client Security
Small Business Edition Content Licensing.
Additional features:
Audit Network feature
- Symantec AV 8.1 includes a feature in the Symantec System Center that
audits your network and reports whether each of the computers on the
network has antivirus software installed and running. For information,
read the document
Client Roaming Options
- The Symantec System Center in Symantec AV 8.1 includes a graphical user
interface for configuring client roaming. You can find the Client
Roaming Options dialog by right-clicking the server or server group, and
clicking All tasks > Symantec AntiVirus > Client Roaming Options.
Individual client configuration
- With the new version of the Symantec System Center, you can configure
individual client settings if necessary. To enable this feature, click
Tools > SSC Console Options > Client Filter, and select "Allow direct
configuration of individual clients."
Offline client indication
- The SSC can now display clients with a dimmed icon if they are offline.
To enable this feature, click Tools > SSC Console Options > Client
Filter, and select "Indicate when clients are offline."
