Half Life: Counter Strike

I downloaded and installed sierra's half life counter strike but i cannot install the patches. Wherever i try to install it it says you are trying to install it to an invalid directory. I've tried the 116 meg file for the retail version, and the 16 meg for 1.4 patch (I'm trying to install the 1.5 patch). I am trying to install it to the counterstrike folder in the sierra folder where cstrike.exe is but i have the same problem happen over and over again. Anyone else had this prob? Anyone know how to solve it?

try getting the 1.6 STEAM its the latest patch.. :)

steam isnt a patch, its a whole game. and are you installing retail version of cs, or are you installing a mod of cs. if u trying to update retail just download a file called cs1005.exe from www.counter-strike.net, if ur trying to update cs as a mod you should dl the thing called cs1.0.0.4to.1.0.0.5! smth like that dude i dont really remember!

I've tried installing both of those, but nevermind I think I'm just going to buy the game its not worth it

dude you can play the offical latest version of counter-strike (1.6) for free just go to steampowered.com and download it. but you need a valid cd-key thats it!

dont buy counter-strike because won will be gone soon i think.

the best thing to do is just download the 700mb steam file with all the mods and games in there, or the 390mb file with only cuonter-strike in there.

get them from fileplanet.

Is there anyway i can get a valid cd key without buying the actual game. I downloaded steam but after like a week or so it got updated and they installed a cd verification step checking utr cd key. Damn them... Getting smarter.... <_<
