video batch conversion

I'm sure this must be around somewhere but just didn't see it.

Is there some software that could take a folder of videos with different extensions ...avi ..mpg ..mkv ... and turn them all in to lets say .avi ?

I know you can do it 1 at a time (to adjust the quality) but it would nice to have around.

viDrop (a mencoder frontend) has batch conversion support. Just load a file, set all its encoding settings, then click on "Add to batch". Repeat that for every file and click on "Run batch" when you've finished. The program should automatically convert every file using its individual settings, one by one of course.

found a few others too Handbrake was one .. I'll check it out
