When you say, "We will probably be opening up the site as well for the 1st time in 2 years or so", you mean, there will probably be an open sign-up?

some loved it, a lot hated it, and it was altinertia`s decision, as long as non members cant see/use the donation link, i dont really care, think i only seen the fake page 4 times in 2 years, but for those on dynamic ips, or who use 2 pcs a lot, it must have been a nightmare.

@ stoi - just curious how were referrals tied to the fake page or am I reading the July 23 news update wrong?

you would give someone a referral code, they would come to the fake page, type referal (yes wrong spelling) into the search box, 2 boxes would pop up at the bottom, for the code and their email.

With the fake page gone, there is nowhere to input referral codes atm, so we removed them from everyone.

The other problem with the fake page was, you could not read the rules/faq while signing up (not that many would anyway in all honesty) but it was a slight problem with it. (or you couldnt agree that you had read them anyway).

yas i agree it is a very good tracker... i have come to appreciate it more and more over time... and the SP system too... at one point i wonder what SP was all about but now i understand and its very helpful....

i have really moved away from downloading ANYTHING from usenet besides movies/video... few weeks ago i downloaded a copy of GTA episodes from liberty city from usenet... 14 gigabytes in two DVD's... thing was a complete fake and the installer was a trojan ... someone went to the trouble of uploading 14 gigs just to have a trojan in there... i will never even consider downloading a game from usenet...

You'd also have a really hard time trying to register with HTTP referers disabled.

That's an understatement, mon ami. However there were simple automators that did the job for firefox users. Not that anyone would have the sense to set it up once and enjoy breezing past it subsequently, of course; no, most people chose to complain about it over and over. :whistling

Aww, I kinda liked the fake page. Still, at least FF will save my details for me now. That'll save a lot of time.
