im working on upgrading my system, im currently looking at about an athlon 2200
and not sure what cooler would be better,

ive got two tht im not to sure on.

a standard socket a cooler, rated to 3200+ for £7

and the coolermaster aero7 lite, for £11
http://image.ebuyer.com/UK/P0051155_C0000022_P0000000.jpg

i think ill probably go for the aero 7 lite, as its quite cheap, and looks like good performance, i also like there new jet ones, but there a bit out of my price range for a cooler
so what one would be better?

also will thermal compound make alot of difference to heat dissapated, and whats the best compound to go for?

the coolermaster aero 7 lite rules for the price! im using one on my amd athlon 2000+ (palamino core) with some cheap thermal grease with the fan at about half way it keeps my cpu at 40c! compared to stock which was about 60c! im very impressesed

if you read the reviews on the aero 7+, you will find that the aero 7 lite is better :)

something i will tell you about the aero 7 lite is that it cums with a shitty thermal pad so get that changed :) , the clip is quite awkward to reach so you might have to remove your psu to fit it easily, it comes with no instructions ( not for n00bs) and the speed adjustment thingy if used in a 3.5 inch bay might not fir propaly meaning it cannot be screwed in as its not long enough! (if that makes any sense!)

All in all the cooler rules and i reccomend it! :)

Edit: and another thing when the cooler is used at full rpm its loud! silent up till about two thirds though

i aint no noob, so it shouldnt be a problem. ill have a look into paste aswell then, i htink my dad get stuff free from his work.
the upgrade will include, a new board, memory and case, so fitting should be ok. as i could do it with the case empty,

i understand what u mean about the 3.5"bay prob, im sure ill get something to work if it doesnt screw in or something.

loud isnt to much of a problem, compared to my current system im sure itll be pretty quiet, and since its rated to 3200 im sure the half power woudl do as you mentioned. :D

my speed control is sellotaped on

adn also the fan is rated at 1900-3500, but actually spins at between 1700 and 3900 on my system and reading the reviews in not alone :)

For thermal compound, most people just use arctic silver I believe.

yes arctic silver is good, my cpu temps went down by 7 degrees!
its running at 37 degrees celcius now. =)
under full load it gets 42 degrees celcius.

looks like ill be getting an aero7 lite then. :D

and acrlic silver seems to be the main thing.
although ill see what stuff my dad uses, as hell get it for free,
unless the acrlic silver stuff is pretty cheap.
but the stuff my dad uses is pretty good i think, he uses it at his work.

my fan control was mutilated untill i just drilled a hole in my acrylic case and put it there.. i thought screw it... doesn't work well so it not gonna be used... but a good fan, when he says loaud though he means it those fans get really damn loud... half speed should do you fine though... also look at some thermaltake coolers.. they have some awsome coolers... i had a amd 2500 running at 30 celcius... so check them oput too, you might try browsing at fans here(Frozencpu.com), althougvh they are definitly not the cheapist place to buy from... they have it all to look at... the aero sounds good choice though... i actually hooked to cables up(via splicing) and the motor handled the extra current.. i am getting horrendous speeds... (loud enough to compare with my lawn mower...) hehehe  :D :P

i just got the cheap antec thermal grease of ebuyer, for £1.70, can you go wrong? i used the shitty thermal pad on the cpu, temps were close to 50c, with the grease on ther around 40c so im happy :)
