Actually they make a 3.2 Ghz CPU. And I think he wants to stick with AMD cuz there cheaper. I never see AMDs in laptops.

if i had the money, id get an alienware or voodoo any day

bigdawgfoxx
11-09-2003, 06:22 PM
That Voodoo looks kinda ugly i think... <_< I would buy dell or something.

Edit: Oh and laptops break more then desktops. They have more problems due to heat issues and cramping. With dell you can get an AWESOME 3 year or 4 year! warranty. They will replace it for ya if it breaks. I would get Dell

mooseman2070
11-09-2003, 08:40 PM
dell is alittle on the expensive side for a good notebook. for compaq, if you get a cheap processor(amd, which shouldnt b cheap) the parts are chep 2. on dell all the parts are one flat rate, good if you have money, bad if your on a budget

bigdawgfoxx

True I guess. I have Dell and have experianced great service...as a matter of a fact my computer is 3 years old today :D haha...the warranty also expires today :( , but Dell has been very good.

only problem wit amd laptops is that they are power hungry

mooseman2070

dll cases are very cool, i think alienware is the best case though. the only ive had an old compaq presario 4 3 years(specs are below) and its alright, just when my dad bought it he had no idea what he was doing and he got it without my consent so thats why he has to spend an extra 1250-1500 bucks

voodoo has an AMD 64bit 3200+ thats the fastest ive seen, but it costs over $3200

I havnt seen any AMD notebooks, other than the voodoo and other 64Bit high end ones, with anything over a 2500+

mooseman2070
11-11-2003, 01:32 AM
yeah, 2500+ seems to be the limit, is there any way i can upgrade it if i get a compaq/hp?

Depends on who you can find to upgrade the notebook.

Most of the stories I have heard about self upgrades also on notebooks, is that they get it open, and it never gets put back together the same, or it couldnt be, or it doesnt work the same.

You can get a P4 Northwood 3.2Ghz 800FSB with HT along with 400DDR Dual Channel Ram. Up to 60gig HD at 7200, going up to 80gigs will hurt your HD rpms. Radeon 9600 Pro is the best you're going to get in video cards for now.

Rumour has it that the Intel® Pentium® 4 3.2/3.4/3.6GHz (Prescott) will be out in January as well as the 256MB DDR Video Memory AGP 8X ATi Mobility™ Radeon™ 9700 (M11).

Of course these will surely be pushed back...or so I'd think.

And now that I've really read the post title I realize that this has nothing to with AMD processors but it could be useful information?

To be honest, I would get the green one, because, its the alien color, and if I was going to shell out for alien ware, people are going to KNOW I have one.

Like I said, these are desktop replacements, don't plan on going on the road and using your laptop for the trip. You'll get MAX close to two hours, more if you get a dual battery setup.

EDIT: The prices are also very reasonable. It's significantly lower than Alienware, however you don't get the pretty Alienhead and the paintjob is optional (but pricey).

ok
and one more thing, does dvd-rom mean you can make dvds or is that dvd-rw?
(i know this has nothing to do with this thread)

DVD-Rom will let you play DVDs, but only the DVD-Rws will let you burn them.

dawg is actually right on this.

HP and Compaq have been horribly in recent stuides over the past few years, for overall Tech support, and Customer Assistance, although they are one of the few to use AMD in their hardware.

However, My family has two HP machines, and I have had little complaints from them, aside from the stupid OS troubles. (Stupid ME)

Thanx for the support John. Yeah all ive seen from hp and compaq..which are the same i think lol is that they break! And they put so much crap pre installed on there...I HATE it. They clog the system up right when you buy it.
