Rap:
Immortal Technique (he keeps it "real", so he gets stuck without the recognition he deserves, par exemple: Lil Wayne rapping about bitches seems to be favored).

R&B:
Ne-Yo (one of the very few remaining "classy" artists, it's unfortunate his songs only make it famous/grand when they have a sick beat, regardless of the depth in their lryics),
Brandy (she doesn't whore herself out like Rihanna/Gaga etc. so she isn't the stereotypical poster favorite, but her music remains some of the best in the genre),
Ryan Leslie (an old rival of Timbaland who never quite made it as big, but kept a good head on his shoulders, regardless).

Metalcore:
Shadows Fall (one of the most underestimated bands found in one of the most underestimated genres out there; few can argue that their songs are nothing but the best, retaining the true spirit that the genre stemmed from, contrary to what most mainstream crap seems to be heading for nowadays).
