Dear PTP Users,

It's sad that it's come to this, but after a long discussion and several days of issues with donations and such, we have decided to close our beloved site forever. We are incredibly saddened that circumstances have come to this, and we cannot begin to say how sorry we are about this. This site has become part of our lives. We've gained friends, some knowledge, and of course a good movie or two. There's no good way to write a goodbye news post, and there's definitely not any part of this we enjoy.

We've been through a lot, as a community, and as staff. We've had our ups, our downs, and we've overcame them all. This, sadly, is something we cannot overcome. We simply cannot afford to push on anymore, and we regret to inform you of this decision that has not come lightly.

We love our community, and we cannot begin to express the thanks we have for all of you in your hard work, support of each other and the site itself, and the countless hours most of you have spent on the site making it the great site it has become.

As one last token of our appreciation, we will be enabling site-wide freeleech and keep the site up until the end of our servers billing cycle. This will be essentially until the end of this month. This may seem small in the grand scheme of things, but it's all we can do at this time. We hope you all understand the sadness that comes with this decision, and know it was something we have not taken lightly. Our userbase is incredible, and we hope you find a home after we're gone.

As said, we are so grateful for all of you, and we hope you can see this from our perspective.

In closing, to our userbase, I personally thank you for everything, and hope you take what you've learned here and utilize it wherever life takes you.

PassThePopcorn.me Staff

On a side-note, it may help if you screenshot your profile to help your hunt for other sites.

Thats it. PTP is closing down!

I feel for them, I really do. The database leak, the child porn, donation stealing, terrible internal staffing issues, and of course the recent mess, seems like they just couldn't shake the drama.

A definite bummer. They went from "oh yet another movie tracker" to my back up for Karagarga. RIP.

Edit: Recent announcements state they will not be shutting down... yet.

Clearly PTN is one of the places that could easily absorb many of their userbase.

Hope they change their minds. The tracker has one of the best content in whole of BT and with their collages, the tracker is one of its kind.Unfortunately lot of butt hurt immature docuhebags just kept on causing problems for it.PTP will be sorely missed if it goes down.

TC would probably be the top runners for an alternative IMO,PTN has a really small user-limit compared to PTP(almost 1/4th)

Z and Dexter were generous enough to transfer the ownership of the site. Please do not speculate on my identity, I will not confirm or deny anything. I do not want it to become a well-known fact.

With that said, the site-wide freeleech will continue for 48 hours as payment of the staff's appreciation for you sticking with us throughout the site's tumultuous times.

Please do us a favor, and do not hit-and-run the FL torrents. Staff will be checking for this, and unfortunately disciplining those as necessary.

More details to come!

That would make perfect sense, to be honest. See, a generous VIP or an overzealous member would actually enjoy letting people know that they stepped up to preserve something everyone enjoys.
On the other hand, there aren't all that many reasons for someone to hide their identity, especially while not making a new one in the process and scrapping the whole ordeal under the carpet.

This all seems like an elaborate ruse to get someone, who wasn't favored, into such a position.

Well, maybe it's time to start thinking about another tracker ahead. I really like the tracker and all but who knows if it's going to survive for another month or two?

So, if it really closes, what would be a good substitute? Sheriff already said PTN but another user said TC (which I don't even know what TC stands for, on purpose I guess :P).

ps: by substitute I mean a tracker as easy (or hard) to survive as PTP and with a good movie database.

If it's conspiracy or not, I don't know but we have heard enough to call that "problem". :(

TC is TehConnection, it's also a gazelle movie tracker. It's one of the oldest gazelle trackers in existence but it's never really "taken off" from what I've seen. They're usually looking for new members and invites aren't too hard to come by. Nice looking place and friendly people, I'd give it a try.

Goem is also a nice place, the design is much more oldschool though.

Totally depends on what floats your boat.
I like Goem even though it seems to have fallen off considerably lately .On the other hand I didn't like TC ( or PTP ) because it seemed like PTN to some extent to operate more like an 0day -everyone jumps on whatever is new and after the initial burst of activity it pretty much flatlines .
For sheer content though no dedicated movie tracker matches up to Demonoid or ru.torrents or Zamunda.Believe me I know of what i speak because I've hunted high and low for stuff for years.

Totally depends on what floats your boat... Believe me I know of what i speak because I've hunted high and low for stuff for years.

So maybe you can help me (and others in the same situation) deciding Idol. I would like to have access to quite new movies (not those still on cinema cause I don't like cam releases). I don't care much about old movies (from 90' and newer are fine to me). I'm not too much into movies.

I think you'll laugh but, at PTP I normally check the top 10 and comments of each movie; I search for some specific movies from time to time (but I don't know many) and I also check "movie covers" :blushing: if it interests me, then I check the comments about the movie to decide if I'll download it or not :yup: (but this last strategy has granted me some "epic fails" already) :frusty:

You see? I'm not a pro

edit: in a second thought, maybe I don't need another tracker at all =/ I can download some movies from other trackers too and I have a demonoid account, YES!

I've been ridiculed for saying it before but I think the great thing about movies ( or music) is that everyone is able to appreciate them(it) in their own way.:)
Along similar lines that that unfortunately also means I can't decide for you ,only give you my opinion which may turn out not to be the best one.

Anyway like ca_aok said nothing wrong with TC or goem or for that matter PTN or CN .I only tend to favour goem because I like how unpretentious the place is and I've personally had better luck finding lesser known movies there than at other places

If however you like the bell and whistles and a good community or at least a community:lol: then PTN is nice and you really can't beat the fact that it is ratioless.

Upz, I just edited my last post to say that I probably don't need another tracker for movies. In fact, if PTP closes, I'll miss it but, thinking positively, it will be one tracker less to manage, which is great =D
If I ever have problems finding something, I'll think about goem then. Thanks Idol!

I saw that above Dexter's announcement when logging in to PTPC today, and that made me unsure of whether they'd actually be closing down or not. It'd appear they won't.

The place is the only private movie tracker I belong to and I used it for its content, so I'd be rather sad (for lack of a better term) if it was shut down.

So, you think it's possible the new owner is pham? But wasn't he stealing donations from the site? He's a good boy now and won't steal anything from the site again?

Economically speaking, it's a good move. They will probably earn some donations this month, after scaring off their members with this announcement, so when he closes next month, he walks away with a fat pocket.

Oh the conspiracy theories. One thing I'm sure though, I wouldn't donate knowing the site would probably close down in a few months having the donations at 100% or not. Because indeed it is how it looks at the moment, they simply don't seem to have what it takes anymore to keep that site running.

So, right now is basically impossible to donate, and you think that "economically speaking, it's a good move"? C'monn, you know pretty well that a lot of trackers had issues with paypal lately.

With no regards to whether PTP will actually close or not, we have always been happy to absorb active PTP users into our community.

PtN is different from PTP, for the bad and the good. Some users might like it while others might not. Yet, we have decided to open the external application to allow users the opportunity to join and decide for themselves.

Due to the fact that PtN v2 has also allowed us to reduce the server loads, we might consider increasing the users base when the time comes.

If you are interested, we encourage you to take a few minutes and fill in the application: http://filesharingtalk.com/threads/418942-PTN-open-tne-invite-application-again?highlight=ptn

I wouldn't of been shady and made a second account, that's for sure. Why keep members in the dark about who actually owns/runs the site? What is this person hiding from? What is this person going to do that requires them to make a second account to shield themselves? Plenty of people run trackers using their same nick so the inevitable excuse of "I did it because I want to stay safe from any potential prosecution" just won't fly. If they wanted to distance themselves from the horrible image that sadly has been associated with PTP (for whatever reason) then they should of scrapped the site and started fresh under a new name and invited the PTP member base to the new tracker.

Just seems kind of shady to me, especially after all the crap publicity the place has gotten over shady staff there the past 6 months or so. You would think they would want to be as transparent as possible, not start off with "I am hiding my identity".

hate to say this but hiding your identity as doing stuffs, not telling userbase who you are is indeed shady and immature in some form. This is not hide and seek, like in movies where one person plays an anonymous killer. You say donation got frozen and then all of a sudden there is new management with no annoucement of the sale by the current producers. I don't do much on ptp lately but sorry to say, I smell and see rubbish throughout the whole post of Kronus.

as I said before... as long as the tracker is running, most of the users they don't really care... this should be different and it's even worse to those who are really engaged in trying to keep the tracker alive but that's what really happens.
