Not that kind of "equipment", Cabalo....

So, what do you use to play your audio and/or video files on? Please post info/pics of anything you play media on- from an iPod to a dedicated theater with custom seating...

Here is my living room system:

Onkyo TX-NR807 (http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-NR807&class=Receiver&p=i)
Philips LCD TV
Sony PS3
Asus O!Play Media Player
Philips DVP5982
Nintendo Wii
2X Polk Monitor 60's (mains)
4X Polk Monitor 30's (height and surround)
Polk CS2 (center)
Velodyne VRP-12
Seagate FreeAgent 500GB for music storage
PC connected to Asus via cable for content playback

Overall, I am quite happy with this system. Almost everything was purchased from Newegg, and they have great deals on the Polk speakers. Not meant to be high-end, I was surprised how good it all tied together.

It may not look like much but it's really the speakers that make the system anyway.

Man, I see purchased software on your pics. Please remove them, or else...

The shame, the shame.

The only way I can feel any kind of dignity, is that I shoplifted the whole lot. But still, it's embarrassing, NTL... :(

How do you like those Polks? I almost bought a pair for an office system... they seemed like such a good deal! In the end I just could't justify purchasing them I was replacing Logitech Z2300 speaker system. But I would've got to buy another reciver :) Love buying new gear.

The Polks are a great deal. Newegg has an exclusive deal with them, and they sell tons of them. If you have patience, watch for the speakers you want to come on sale- don't buy them all at once, if you can wait. The prices fluctuate a lot. They are very well built, and even throw off a nice "image". A 12" sub is a plus, too.

I happened to catch this stuff just as the new models were coming out. My receiver and ALL the Polks came to about $1200. That's pretty close to the "list" price of the receiver alone. It does not feel like a "budget" system at all!

I keep an eye out at slickdeals and they come up on there everynow and then... $1200 not bad for at all for a complete 7.1 setup. Especially with that receiver... Do you use any of the network features of it?

I updated the firmware when I first got it. That, in itself, is worth the extra, IMO. If I didn't have the Asus O!Play, I would be using the network. As it is, the Asus replaces any need for streaming (I'm too cheap to pay for Internet Radio) of files. One could go a step lower (the 700 is non-networked) but you get lesser power and features throughout. I had to scrape (well, beg the wife) to squeeze the 800 in, but I don't regret it.

"I've squandered alll my monies on stupid, useless, pathetic sound gear!!!!..*kicks whole system*. *Throws receiver at LCD* *Kicks Asus across room* *Swings 4 smaller speakers attached to their cords- violently at mains.* *2 surrounds crack in the collision; left main receives serious damage to face and both mid-range drivers*

Oh, that's OK, cabalo. I'll update the LCD when I can. It would be kinda cool to to have a bigger pic, anyways... :mello:

I did try to find Edward Hopper's work last night, but didn't find anything that matched... I don't doubt you, though.

I knew he couldn't afford a real Hopper after wasting his money on all that silly electronic shit.

Yeah, my taste in "art" is often what comes with the frame. Oddly enough, I like some of the "families" that come in wallets better than my "blood kin", too...

The question is... you don't go around showing others claiming they are your family...? :P

You haven't seen my "real" family. It's far easier to explain why my parents (in the photo) are of different race, then it is to explain my "real" parents. :(

The Polks are quite to my satisfaction. The value was fantastic, and they just sound nice. I would rec them (and the receiver) to any friend looking for a full 7-channel system without taking out a bank loan. Honestly, if a friend were thinking about spending more, I would make certain they realized the diminishing returns of spending more.
