Hey there,


i've been look for a decent guide to setup my own news server using INN http://www.isc.org/software/inn or cnews on ubuntu or debian ..so i can use my own news server instead of giganews etc

not able to find a decent guide on usenet server ..can anyone share some light on this ??

Heh... if you want to have binary content just setting up the server will not be enough. You'll either have to get people to post to your server or then you'll have to sync with some pay servers such as giganews or astraweb that have a lot of content.

Just rent an unmetered 1 Gb server eg. off leaseweb for ~$2000 per month (24TB HDD will get you max 4 days of retention), plus pay for the newsfeed (readnews.com seems to be rather cheap - $7000 per month).

So, for just $9000 per month you'll get your 4 days of retention off your own news server :)
