The best place to check for Australia is http://whirlpool.net.au/ the forums over there are pretty good as well.
They also have a place on the front page where you can type the phone number (thats if the phone is currenty connected) to check if you can get adsl.

Just hope you can actualy get Adsl, In Australia getting Adsl is harder because of Telstra and systems which they have installed preventing adsl e.g. pair gains, rims.

What ever you do dont go on any comindico reseller e.g dodo there p2p speeds suxs.

well, first of all, i dont think dial-up has an option of unlimited surfing and you end up having to pay hefty phone bills if you surf too long. If i pay more i can get higher speeds but im a cheap bastard.
Its a broadband connection provided to several people through a copper wire.

Well I guess you're right. Even very slow broadband is better than dial-up. It's always on and doesn't tie up the phone line.

In the UK.

NTL, 600k(download), 128k (upload) costs £25 ( $37), NTL Cable Modem. Get average download speed of 68 k/s. Far better than BT/AOL/Freeserve

But the best deal can be found at http://www.bulldogdsl.com/ , You get 2Mbits/s (download) 400k (upload) - evenings and weekends, and 512k all other times, for £30 ($45). I'll be moving to this service once NTL contract expires.

But be warned they charge £50 connection fee, if you are considering moving to this service.

NTT b-flets 100MB connection

This has got to be a mistake right??

100mb thats a dam OC-3 connection, they cost like $30000/month in the USA.

You could host a good dam gaming server on you computer!!!

you would need your own personal hardline for that,

My computer cant even transpher data locally at that speed, has to be a mistake!!

I use plusnet too- 512k connection £24.99 but got free activation and free usb modem so works out cheeper than hooking up to broadband for the first time than with the £21.99 deal - for the first twelve months at least- than i'll change over!!

Most of the options people have said arent really applicable for where you live.
I have 512k ADSL at the moment from iiNEt. They cover most areas in Australia now. And if not they will soon. iiNet seem to be doing a pac-man impersonation with all the smaller isp's they have been buying out recently  .
They provide pretty good service. And have other features like. 30 meg of free webspace, free sms's a month, free local content that doesnt get added to the monthly quota, 5 email boxes. The plan im on all up has a quota of 20gig on and off peak a month. And even if you do manage to go over this amount you dont get charged anything extra on the side. all that happens is your connection is shaped to 72k which is still faster than dial up anyway
iiNet Website (http://www.iinet.net.au/products/home/bliink/index.html)

The cost of $80 may sound steep to some but thats pretty competitive compared to what else is offered here unfortunatly. There are cheaper plans on offer though.

Hope that helps. :D

for real... i mean why dont u host stuff on irc.. i bet servers would kill for a 100mb connection. I wish our government would invest in some of those fiber optic lines so we could get speeds like that.
