I have a Cable Modem whihc can be connected to the Computer via USB or Ethernet.
What is the difference?

I was using USB BTW, but now Ethernet.

Erm.. I think ethernet is faster.. and more compatible(?) I really dont know the details.. but Ethernet is recommended and USB is only used if you dont have an ethernet card.

fats ethernet(100mbs) is faster than usb1(11mbs) and the fact that it will use a usb slot, and i think usb uses slightly more resources, and also ethernet was designed for that fact, usb wasnt, i would always use ethernet where avilable.

imo.

Come to think of it, it is only a USB 1.1 cable. Pretty lame.

Thanks, anyway!

but if its only connecting between the modem and the computer, then that doesnt matter, as where as the computers were maybe on a lan and tranferring files the speed would matter.

and you cable service is only gonna be 5mbs TOP, where as average i would say about 1mb maybe depending on where you are from. so the speed of the 2 doesnt really matter,

my usb modem always caused my pc to crash every now and again. i now use ethernet and have not had one single problem with it.

and another thing, you wont need usb modem drivers if its plugged into ethernet

Ethernet is much more flexible.

But if you are just wanting to know which is faster on the internet, it really doesnt matter, because both the Ethernet cable and USB cable have enough headroom to support even the faster cable connections.

I use a cable modem at 600kb/s.... its fine on USB (1.1)

I also asked the cable installer what was better, ages ago when i had it done.. he said there wouldn't be any difference in our case.. :D :D

of course, ethernet will be better in larger speed situtions, but i need my expansion slots! lol!

However some ADSL modems only have a 10M/bit port meaning that usb will achive slightly more, but considering that most ADSL is running at 512K right now ethernet isnt really necessary in most cases.

I perfer to use ethernet, just so I have the usb open, USB printer, USB Scanner, digital camera, and the mp3 player, and since my pc only has four USB ports, just stay with Ethernet.

Cool thing, is Ethernet is becoming just like USB, by that I mean, its pretty much included on most new mobos.
