Im confused. So what are the advatages of having a moniter with DVI capabilities. What is it used for?
Higher bandwidth, therefore higher resolution.
Webopedia's definition is a bit misleading, it is a digital interface, so your graphics card (which is digital by definition) doesn't have to convert to analogue first.
Most often used (at the moment) for flat panel displays, which again are purely digital, and therefore the analogue phase is omitted completely.
