Mr. Ellis said the place would be "absolutely not" returning, so either he changed his mind, this isn't official, or someone just wants to capitalize on OiNK's name.

Someone should contact him to clear this out, his e-mail address is on oink.cd.

And if that was true, I think it would be advertised in the ex-offical page: http://oink.me.uk/

Who cares about dead trackers which will be back?

Waffles and What are the references, enjoy them and stop waiting after ghost l33t trackers.

Anyone remember that IRC log where GeddyLee was going to swipe OiNK's name to keep stealing your donations? This is probably that. Tread carefully.

Someone may try to exploit the name, but they will never be able to re-create it's former glory. Oink has been dead for a long time now and has since been replaced by two sites that are even better than it ever was.

Waffles and what.cd are better than oink was during it's heyday? Really??? Not just asking, I was a former Oink member and also a member of those two trackers.

Uhh yes. Anyone who says otherwise is in denial. They've accomplished far more. I would never give up What for OiNK.

Eventhough I was an avid OiNK user way back when, this really doesn't interest me as much as I thought it would if it were to come back. Guess because there's already so many great sources out their for music...

Who would want pay to enter a tracker misusing OiNK's name (note that as pointed above, neither Alan Ellis nor the ex-staff from the real OiNK are affiliated with this) is beyond me.

I wasn't a member at Oink either, but I'm registered on waffles. Waffles is very good IMO; it has a wide variety of music in different formats. Even though waffles is good enough for me, it wouldn't hurt to see another good music tracker rise from the ashes and become as great as waffles and what.

i'm sure mr. ellis could trademark that site and file a lawsuit. they didn't even bother to change the logo. talk about copy right infringement.

Why would OiNK need to return? Nostalgia? After all, it has been replaced with two very good sites.

And this is another worthwhile point. The authorities took down OiNK, only to unleash What and Waffles. They'd have to be stupid to try and take one of those sites down, as they'd unleash several more sites to replace it. in fact, the more sites they take down, the more they unleash, at a factor of 2 to 1.

When I first started this game, I knew most of the main sites available, yet today I know less than 5%. The proliferation of torrent sites since the authorities closed down a batch of them during 2004 and 2005 is inspiring. They closed down ten, and one hundred pops up to replace them.

Now that IS the spirit of sharing...

Not always a good thing. Are there enough users to feed all these new trackers or will it water down the field too much. And how many active members does a tracker, esp. a new one, need to keep it's blood flowing.

Then looks like someone is pirating the famous name of Oink to create a site which will surely ttry to become famous from the day 1.

This has to be the most golden opportunity ever to catch those pirating music.
Good move by RIAA, I'll have to admit. :yup:

Hah, good point. The "opening" date is just a couple of weeks away, we'll have to wait and see.

On a sidenote, anyone remembers TPB's BOiNK project? :P
