I tell you what. Currently, I am working on a project that requires level transmitters to be installed in raw sewage line. These transmitters will tell the sewage plant how high or low that the liquid fecal matter, toilet paper, turds puke, piss, etc... in different parts of the city.

Now, to access these special areas is NOT what you see on TV. Most sewage lines are 24 inches in diameter, until they are within 2 miles of the sewage plant. The only way I can enter a live sewer shaft is by hanging from a cable attached to a tri-pod, and then hand cranked down by a helper. There are no laders built into the walls. Only drinking water, electric and other utilities have those ladders. Let me remind you, the smell is awful. Worse than the sewage plant itself. There is a hepatitis and other dieases to be cautious about. These shafts are deep, Up to 80 feet deep. DARK, and confined. All you have is a cable. If the cable snaps, you go down and get sucked with the flow that is impossible to fight. Try swimming in a 24 inch pipe with 30 MPH of shit water against you in total darkness.

Here is an actual video clip of one of the shafts that I have to enter. This is a small one, being that it is only 13 feet deep, however the danger still exists. Notice the vertical pipe. That is the level transmitter on top (with pipe) that needs to be replaced with a new one. Only one person fits in there and can handle the job.

Notice how fast the flow is. Imagine getting sucked down in that with no way to escape. Do you see a ladder?
