I am NOT held responsible for your actions, and what you do with this information.
I simply provide this information for "educational" purposes. :P
Last Update 02/15/04

Okay.... so want free dial-up eh? These days people (AOL) charge $20 a month for dial-up, when I sit here and use Juno for free dial-up. Now I know what your thinking... Juno sucks. Juno is a horrible ISP infact. They give you a stupid 15 hour limit, put stupid ads on your screen, and disconnect you constantly (on purpose!). Okay, so your wondering... "How can I get rid of all these flaws in Juno?" Well, here is a little secret...

How to get free dial-up with Juno. NO ads, NO limit, NO disconnections, and NO shitty Juno broswer, FREE.

Tools Needed:
1. Juno v5.0 Build 33.
You NEED this older version of Juno, you can download it Here (http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=juno) or Here (http://www.junoaccmail.org).
2. You need Beware of Dog 2.4 (http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/masquerade/bewareofdog.exe), it's a state of the art banner killer.
Beware of Dog was created by a group called "The Elusive Masquerade," you can check their main site Here (http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/masquerade/).

Now that you have Juno v5.0 Build 33, and Beware of Dog 2.4 (http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/masquerade/bewareofdog.exe), let's get started.

IMPORTANT STEP: Clean Install
If you have/had Juno installed, you got work to do. Delete:
1. The "Juno" folder in your Program Files folder.
2. The "Juno.ini" file in your Windows folder.
3. EVERY registry entry that relates to Juno in the windows registry. (Start > Run > regedit > OK) Use find to search for all the juno keys (there are a ton) and remove them ALL.
If you don't, this might not work.

OK, do a clean install of Juno, and open it.
EDIT:
Some people said their Juno installer was corrupted. I think you guys might be mistaken... is this what you get when you try to open it?

Image Resized
http://www.chinkii.com/uploads/album/misc/bleh.jpg' width='200' height='120' border='0' alt='click for full size view'> ('http://www.chinkii.com/uploads/album/misc/bleh.jpg')
Click the image to see it bigger.

When I try to open my Juno installer, I get this too. If thats the case, it isn't corrupted, the shitheads at Juno messed up the installer.

If you get the error above, do this:
1. Go to the Windows Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL)
2. Click on the Processes tab
3. Find Juno.exe, and end the process
4. Click OK

Everything should go smoothly after that.

Now, click on create account. Fill EVERYTHING out with bullshit (exept for the phone number, cause you need to dial local), all of it.
EDIT:
I should have made the guide more clear. It will ask you for your phone number twice. When it asks for you address and stuff, at the bottom it will ask for your phone number. Fill that one out with bullshit (mine is (999) 999-9999 lol). Later on it will ask for your phone number again for dialing to the net, fill that one out with your real number. Sorry for any confusion.

I've been using Juno with B.S. info for years now. Fill the member profile with absolute bullshit. And make your account email bs, mine is [email protected] lol.

IMPORTANT STEP: Don't Activate
OK, at some point. It will dial to create your juno account, allow this. After that, it will re-dial to activate your account, DON'T activate your account! Once it is dialing to activate you account, click cancel, then click next. (The old version of Juno is stupid and lets you click next without activation :) )

When your done, close Juno.

Install and open Beware of Dog (this program rocks!).

[img]http://www.chinkii.com/uploads/album/misc/bodmain_krackhead2k.jpg

1. Click on Free ISP, then Edit Defined ISP.
2. Free ISP name: Juno
3. Free ISP path: C:\Program Files\Juno\bin\juno.exe (or where ever you installed it)
4. Check "Screaming Broccoli" (See below for more important info)
5. Connection Delay (important): 2000
6. Engine: New Engine 2.3
7. Click Set, then OK

http://www.chinkii.com/uploads/album/misc/bodoptions_krackhead2k.jpg

8. Click on Free ISP, then Set Default ISP, check Juno.

http://www.chinkii.com/uploads/album/misc/boddefault_krackhead2k.jpg

The rest of the options are fine.

Click Connect.

Juno will open, Beware of Dog will be waiting, muahahaha. When Juno opens, just put in your password and connect regularly by clicking on World Wide Web. Right when Juno connects, Beware of Dog will kill its ads and browser, but you will remain connected.

Beware of Dog will show this, and say how many times it's killed the banner, then close itself.
http://www.chinkii.com/uploads/album/misc/krackhead2k_worked.jpg

IMPORTANT INFO: Screaming Broccoli
Beware of Dog comes with a program called "Screaming Broccoli", because you checked "Screaming Broccoli" (step 4 above), it will open after you are connected, and will stay in the system tray. Screaming Broccoli acts like the Juno banner, which must be open so you stay connected. So keep Screaming Broccoli open, it keeps your connection alive, so you don't get disconnected.

http://www.chinkii.com/uploads/album/misc/krackhead2k_screaming.jpg

And since you haven't activated your account, you will be able stay online without limits! It's like Juno doesn't even know your online!

You can use Beware of Dog to kill the Netzero banner, but I'm not sure about the time limit. It's because Juno's old version lets you make an account without activating it, so you can use it without limits!

Downloading now. TY. Do I still have to use Juno's Browser? When I get time, (just started new job = YEAH!, about time too) I'll set a system restore point & give this a try. It'd be cool if it works without their proprietary browser & all the BS associated with these heavy handed ISP's. Thanks again.

Nope. Juno connects, Beware of Dog kills the ads and browser. Then just surf with IE or Opera or whatever you want. :)

Just remember, follow the steps carefully, and don't activate!

I don't know if Juno has access numbers in Canada. You could Go Here (http://my.juno.com/s/numbers) and punch in your phone number and see if Juno is availible for you. If it is, it will work. :)

@ninjamonkey
That's because most people (before switching to dsl) used dial-up, and payed around $20 a month. If people knew about this when they had dial-up, they would have saved money. I almost feel sorry for AOL users.

AOL:
$20 a month
Annoying browser

Juno 5.0.33 with Beware of Dog 2.4:
FREE
No ads
No browser
Same speed as AOL

Yeah that would be nice. The members of this forum that pay for dial-up could save a lot of money. Me and my neighbor have been using Juno w/ Beware of Dog for a long time now, and my neighbor is an ex-AOL user.

EDIT: I added a few screenshots to make it easier.

Yes, make sure that your dialing a number that is local to you. Otherwise your phone bill might skyrocket.

Seems like the problem is with the number. There are some numbers that didn't work for me, but there are a ton of other numbers local to me. It sucks that there is only one local number for you, where do you live?

High Five. I think thats a great find and it helps me for sure if I get it to work...It means I can get my cox internet and still give my dad free dial up. My current isp provider (dsl) gives us free unlimited access through both dial up and dsl. Its cook, but I hate the dsl built in firewall that blocks like anything from coming in and going out. Plus I want the 300 - 600 I can get with cox. I get like 60 on a good day right now. Great find and thanks. ~curious as to what could go wrong though if they find out~ Hope no one gets caught.

If you did it right, when Juno connects Beware of Dog will kill the browser, and the banner won't show up, but you will remain connected. Beware of Dog will show this, and say how many times it's killed the banner, then close itself.

Hey, that guy must have made up his own name for that file, when it came from Juno, the version 5 installation file was named junoinst.exe ... that may be why you can't find it out there anywhere if you've been searching for it... it's big, over 7 megs...

I think so. You can surf the web without Juno's annoying ads, clicking those ads pay for Juno's free services. I guess you can call it illegal.

will juno ever find out
Nope. Because you won't activate your account, Juno won't even know your online! But I am NOT held responsible for whatever happens. Me and my neighbor have been doing this for over a year now.

and who created beware of dog?
Some group called "The Elusive Masquerade," you can check their main site Here (http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/masquerade/).

Most likely your not going to get caught. I know a lot of people who have been doing this for some time now, without any problems. I just simply want you to know, IF something were to happen, you can't blame anything on me.

I wouldn't worry much about it, if you didn't activate your account, and you filled out your member details with B.S.

Thanks a lot Rip The Jacker. Finally got my new compuer built & everything working. Finally had to break down & get an USB cable to connect my printer vs parallel cable, which I couldn't figure the conflict. Cause my printer was connected to my old computer with the parallel cable. Printed out the steps you updated 02/15/04. Works without the Juno browser, hot darn. Going to see if the unlimited connection works as well. Will edit this post later with the results. Thanks again.

Edit: Very nice so far. Online for over 12 straight hrs! My old service dropped the connection around half that time.

Edit: Crap! It did stop working. Oh well.
