To Split Avi/mpg!

Help me! I've been trying for ages to find a decent program to split 2 movies which I downloaded from Kazaa. I have both MPG & Avi. Is there anything easy to split them up and then I can burn it to a cd?

Mpg's are always larger about 830 megs per disc avi's on kazaa at say upto 720 megs will also fit 1 disc if above in Nero enable "overburn" to get 3-5 megs more but cut at lower speed to be on the safe side.

How big are they ?
