One of my first MoBo's was an AS rock and I had no problems with it. To be fair though is it good for what? Does it work? Does he just want to upgrade or what? We need some more info to give an honest opinion here bud. It's not a "bad" mobo but it's not nearly the best out there either.

Any new hardware can do those things. He should decide based on offline games he will be playing

Hmmm, well how much is the bundle cost? This will be a huge factor as well. Does he have a budget?

One thing I dont like it that the on board gfx only has a vga out, so that really is quite outdated

A graphics card will solve that problem, and if he plans on gaming he will definitely need one, as on-board video is usually not good enough for recent releases.

Perhaps, but personally I don't like the idea one bit of still using VGA out as a standard.

Assrock is Asus's budget brand or something.

I've no idea about their quality control or anything, but one can at least hope that some of the better aspects of Asus's engineering rub off, since they're a subsidiary and all (or was last I read about them).

:hi:

Anyways. On topic I can also note that my cousin used an Asrock motherboard for a couple of years, and seemed satisified enough.

It wasn't fancy, but it worked.
