Hi all, sorry if this has already been posted
what's happened to VCDQ? Is this a long term problem?
are there any alternatives to this site?

Did you actually try following the DNS cache, as they told you to? That and switching to alternative DNS servers may help with this and future issues.

yeah did try clearing the DNS cache, didnt do anything

Use google one's for example:
Primary: 8.8.8.8
Secondary: 8.8.4.4
Probably you will have to change that on your router's DNS settings, switching from auto to manual mode and inserting the above mentioned values.

I wouldn't recommend that, Google's actively logging your IP and what sites you visit when you use their DNS service.
My personal recommendation would be OpenDNS, which I've been using for over three years and never gave me any issues. Their IPs are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 - you can dive in your router's settings and set them there, or do the same on Windows.
