Yay or Nay?

This is the only sitcom I've every cried of laughter. John Cleese was a legendary genius.

Great series , don't if it's the "best' , not bringing social conscience to the table like All in the Family or MASH ( not to mention enduring or endearing characters like Cheers or Friends), although it certainly was one of the very funniest.
Also let's not forget Seinfeld , some truly "classic" moments there.
Btw on a Cleese related note, if you've never seen A Fish Called Wanda you should. Some hysterically funny stuff there too.

Fawlty Towers is certainly a great series but I hope I've not seen "the best" ever or what's the point of watching anymore?
I'd rate Absolutely Fabulous right up there with FT, BTW.

The kipper and the corpse classic my belly hurt so much the first time I see that. Best ever it is up there but I could not commit to saying yes definitely. I think people would be over expectant if they have been on another universe and actually not seen this series. Fawlty towers is lots of tom foolery really loved The Waldorf Salad episode to.
