View Full Version : 'Economical' Windows-based seedboxes?

Hi Everyone,

What are your suggestions for the most economical (i.e. cheapest) Windows-based seedboxes? While I understand that Linux will always be cheaper than Windows because of licensing costs, I would prefer to run uTorrent as my preferred BitTorrent client (however, if anyone has experience with WINE, please speak up).

As well, it would be a plus if the provider accepted PayPal for payment.

utorrent works pretty fine with wine. Yet I don't think utorrent is a good option for seedbox. Rutorrent is way more capable, transmission is way more efficient and simpler

imho PayPal is not a plus, its more like a necessarily when buying seedboxes

runs 'ok' on wine, just have to be ready to configure it properly or it will be crap speeds. imho get a rtorrent based setup, or pay for windows desktop (not that expensive actually).

Hmm, I didn't realize that Windows desktops were available for leasing (I've only seen expensively priced Windows Server-based systems). Which provider offers these?

Utorrent runs fine in wine. I prefer it over other clients. I'd be happy to setup a quick utorrent+vnc+ftp for you if you purchase a linux vps/dedi.

I just did some testing in a VM and I think it's safer for me to stick with a Windows-based system considering my unfamiliarity with Linux.

Therefore, does anyone know of a provider that offers reasonably priced Windows boxes (including desktops) with a good amount of space?

Keep in mind for a dedicated server, Windows usually adds $15-$25/mo extra addon. Less for a VPS. Also, it's rare but sometimes you can find a provider that will install Windows server using customer-provided keys. It would have to be a legit key though-but you can get one for free if you have a friend with a .edu email https://www.dreamspark.com/default.aspx

What do you mean by TB? Storage? Bandwidth?
