When upgrading your BIOS you must use the right one for your specific motherboard, not just any AWARD BIOS.

Why do you think you need a BIOS upgrade?

pretty much im trying to oc my duron to 1ghz. and compaq's "bios" dont give anything close to that.

Livy
11-08-2003, 02:39 PM
maybe your board doesnt support that great a speed, what speed is your duron?

edit: also, what computer model do you have, or motherboard?

heh, yeh it can, with these bios, the max mobo can handle is 1100. my duron is 750. only 250mhz.. sum dude got it to 1250.. but as too unstable, so he turned it down to 1ghz and worked perfect.

Weedy
11-08-2003, 02:43 PM
i found a award flasher that works under NT/XP, if any1 could help out with the .bin that be perfect

Livy
11-08-2003, 02:44 PM
a 250mhz jump is quite a bit, you will need some good cooling, you cant just ramp it up as it will get way to hot, especially under load. you may be able to get about 800,850 with standard cooling.
although i dont know to much about overclocking.

Livy
11-08-2003, 02:45 PM
well what model of compaq do you have?

Weedy
11-08-2003, 02:46 PM
i have 2 normal case fans, plus the power supply, and i have a Tt i think volcano, dun remeber, but it will handle the cooling.

Virtualbody1234
11-08-2003, 02:46 PM
Sorry, I can't help you. Get a new motherboard and CPU or a whole new computer. It's not worth the effort to try to overclock a 750 Duron in a Compaq.

Those machines are not made to be tweaked and overclocked. Build yourself you own PC next time.

11-08-2003, 02:48 PM
hel, i pretty much did, i got this mobo and the procesor, for free, the rest is just part that were laying around..

750 Duron
384MB PC100
20Gb 5200 RPM
30Gb 7200 RPM

U.S. Robotics 56K Win Modem

Now you give up 1 minute after telling us the model?

When doing BIOS flashing you don't do it in Windows. You need to boot with a diskette.

That's all I can do to help you. You don't seem to want to even listen and work with us. You jump to conclusions too quickly.

he's right. flashing ur bios, if not done correctly, may even destroy ur original bios and render ur comp "totally fucked up". ur current settings are fine. stick with it. i wouldn't risk the comp for that. and yea, u would want to build a new one. if u want and need speed, build a new one. just a recommendation, not something stupid or not thought of, ok virtualbody?

and bout the bios flash fuck!n up the comp, no.

asus and abit(i think) make mobo with exact same chipset, and that wut mostly matter when flashing. it just i cant find the award bios ID number, the actual file that the flasher put on the bios. if i could, then i could do it, i alredy found a award flasher that works under nt/xp.

Abu, you are right!

Mark this date on your calendar.

Weedy, you are risking an awful lot for very little return.
You are trying to hot rod a setup that is going to fight you every step of the way and your final results (assuming that you don't end up with a smoldering ruin), are not going to approach your expectations.

Flashing your BIOS and OCing your chip are not magic cures.
If you start with decent hardware you can optimise it, but you can't turn a pig's ear into a silk purse.

The question is "What are you learning?"

When you get your new setup life will be so much simpler ( and different).

Asus boards for instance, allow you to go to their website and flash your BIOS online. Takes about 5 minutes. No guessing, no sweat, no problems.

What you're trying to do seems a bit like learning to be a sheepherder.
Yes, you can say you know how to do it, but what good is it?

If this comp has really pissed you off why not exact your revenge by giving it to someone that you dislike?
Just imagine all the hours of gut-wrenching frustration they will endure.

I thought you just said that you don't need the right BIOS.

So you know all about this stuff then I guess you don't need our help. :P

Great some sites but is your bios a 1.2 !!! at first boot up the string of numbers along the bottom are the boards details press pause and write them down, these give you bios ver m/board number etc and thats the only bios update you can use.

See http://www.klboard.ath.cx/index.php?showtopic=80232 the 00 at the end is his bios update number others can cock it up.

I FUCK!NG HATE THEM. and wut im trying to do, is get the ORIGINAL BIOS, that were supposed to be on that FIC AZ31. as much as i try, so far no fashers are compatible with MY BIOS chip. which is PMC FLASH b6j36 oo34 pm29f002t-12jc. right now im looking at UniFlash v1.33. it might work, or just not find the chip. dunon yet. im going to try it right now...
