When i was 11 years old i had a serious reaction to anti-biotics which resulted in me being hospitalised. I was very ill and missed about 6 months of school. It happened to me again when i was 14. Gladly ive been ok since as they found out know what prescribed drugs i needed to avoid.

When I was 3 years old. I had the upper half of my finger cut off by a wrought iron gate slamming shut on it. Fortunately, the doctors were able to stitch it back on.

Illness or injury?

I had Mono once.

I couldn't believe what that made me feel like; Dr. told me mine was the worst he'd ever seen.

I believed him. ;)

I had a very short bout of CHF that just about did me in, or so I was told.

I've had some injuries I won't recount here as I don't believe they're of sufficient hilarity to suit this thread. :)

Actually, yes.

Deprived me of half my faculties.

Good thing I'm not a liberal-it would have rendered me speechless. :D

Actually, both.

Good spot, titey. :)

I meant, in my case, that although I would have been deprived of speech, the remaining faculties would have been sufficient to thrash the libs, though it would have required an unending supply of (given the vintage of the injury) pens and typewriter ribbons. ;)

Going through a bad time right now. My thyroid gland is playing up - been on the sick list for about 4 months now - pretty damn annoying - apart from that i had my tonsils out when i was about 6-7 yrs old. Pretty lucky so far (UKMan rushes to touch some wood, count to 3, avoid the ladder, spots a cat and turns round 3 times).

Peace

I don't know about serious, but I was in hostpital for quite a while as a 4 year old with a hole in the heart, but apparantly it just closes or whatever. I've also had malaria, dysentry and hepatitis, (not a bad one). I've been stabbed in the stomach, and shot in the leg, again not seriously or I wouldn't be here. The closest to death I have come was falling 6 floors and breaking my wrists, a few ribs, broken jaw, fractured skull, kneecaps etc. I was really lucky, I landed on a floating jetty, and landed flat, I missed concrete steps and a spike fence, either of which would have killed me. I was also beaten near to death by the police when I was 17, they got me to the operating theatre just as my heart stopped. I've been in many situations since that could have ended it for me, I guess I'm just lucky.

Go on holiday with you
Walk by your side
Be your neighbour
Have sex with you

In college I caught mono ( which is fairly common), but it was misdiagnosed as spinal meningitis.
Whenever I regained lucidity I couldn't figure out why my whole family was there.
They all thought I was dying.
Several spinal taps later my true illness was revealed and everyone went home.
Pissed, no doubt.

I had a collapsed lung once.
That was by far the worst.

What is mononucleosis?

Mononucleosis (often called "mono") is an infection caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Signs of mono include fever, sore throat, headaches, white patches on the back of your throat, swollen glands in your neck, feeling tired and not feeling hungry.

It's a bit worse than it sounds; instead of making you wish you were dead, it makes you feel that you shortly will be.

Generally lasts a month-mine was 9 weeks.

Not so bad a sickness, but I would sure steer clear of "Stereo" or Quad" if I could. ;)

I know for a fact that a couple of dudes here are suffering very seriously from an illness calles SoulSickness. It effects the mind and body in such a way, that you are incapable of doing anything else other than post in the same thread every 5 minutes about the same thing regardless if anyone else is interested or not. Despite this, the SoulSick person finds it totally impossible to stop. Wierd illness, but true:

It is suspected that Soulseek is suffering an infection called JPaul23, or some such thing.

It seems the infection seeks a more hospitable host. :(

When i was 11yrs, I had meningitis (luckily not the one that can be fatal), though I was very ill. I lost 4st in weight and basically all of my memories prior to having meningitis. That was over twenty years ago and Though some memories have come back most are now lost forever. It also left me with some problems with remembering names and places. But I cope :D

I was also run down by a car at the age of 15. shattered my shoulder, fractured my skull and severed the muscles in my right thigh.

Plus the usual bumps, cuts and bruises normal day to day life holds.
