View Full Version : Threat to turn me in to authorities for illegal downloading (should I be worried?)

I have recently had a relationship of mine tour very much so sour. One of the consequences of this is that the 'snitch' threatening to call my local police and report that I am illegally downloading movies and music from various file sharing sites. Is this something I should be worried about or will the police blow this matter off?
Any feedback is HIGHLY appreciated guys :)

The police would probably laugh (on the inside) if your ex told them about this. Now child porn is a different matter.

I don't think local police would be interested at all, except in one situation--that the snitch said the illegal downloads involved child pornography.

But if you are concerned I suppose you could move all files involved in this to external hard drives, which you could store away from your main computer....

Child porn would change the picture, but I don't know how you guys came up with that, except as a possible excuse this person could use to ensure deadman36g gets screwed over.

Where do you live? In my country, if someone was to do that, the police would tell them to fuck off and report serious things instead.

Judgment from being sued for copyright infringement: $500,000

Hitman: $5,000

Do the math.

Things we learn from Hollywood: the most efficient route in this situation would be to register on Craigslist and look for a "mechanic".

Finding a stranger also needing someone dead priceless (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044079/plotsummary).

Either that or take your HDs smash them into tiny little pieces, burn down your house, change name, move to another city and have the last laugh.

The cops would have a really hard time getting a judge to issue a warrant based on that.
I'd absolutely ignore it.

I believe the correct term is cunt-like. Or perhaps cuntile...

There is ABSOLUTELY no child pornography (or even pornography in general) involved so for this matter I will take you guy's advice and ignore

In Sweden the police knows that many people are sharing things they are not suppose to but they are not very interested in busting people for it. Only way to get a fine is if a private company requests an investigation from a pretty recent authority and the person they are looking for has an ISP that saves traffic data (but i think that it has only happened very few times to set examples).

or you could tell her this

(X-girl friends name input here), let's face it. And I'm not being funny. I mean no disrespect, but you're a cunt. You're a cunt now, and you've always been a cunt. And the only thing that's going to change is that you're going to be an even bigger cunt. Maybe have some more cunt kids.

Wow and I thought my ex was an ass. I'd just say fuck off and walk away. Maybe block her from everything so she can't bug you and enjoy your movies and music even more knowing it would piss her off.

You'd be better of DBANing whatever HDDs are in question. The whole TC thing is great for protection, but the police can make your life hell if you don't give them the password. I was given a lecture by the regional internet crimes officer, and he said they'd get you for obstruction of justice. Ofcourse you could consent for the popo to bruteforce the disk, but why not just give them a pefectly clean disk to begin with?

There are actually two other very important questions which you've not asked. I don't know whether that's because you haven't thought of them or because you have (and you've realised we can't answer them).

1. How likely is the 'snitch' to follow through with the threatened action?

2. Since the police won't even investigate that specific allegation, how likely would the snitch be to embellish it?

Or you could set yourself on fire if they come after you, that'll show 'em.
