Ok poeple, how important is it do ya think that the surface of a heatsink is mirror smooth? it it worth thr 5 bucks it will cost me to get the 2000 grit and up sandpaper?? just wondering...

Unless the surface is obviously rough then, in my opinion, you won't get $5 worth of benifit from doing it. Just use a good thermal paste like Arctic Silver.

ok, i have arctic silver, the surface is not rough, as much as i would say it was a solid cast no major scratches, but looked like it never touched a bit of sandpaper, not reflective...

I don't know, I look at it from a different perspective, it could increase the heat taken off the processor, and its only 5 bucks, so why not do it.

It certainly won't hurt and you only have to do it once, so why not?

Just make sure that it is spotlessly clean before you install it.

coolio i think i will drop by the hardware store then... my block is suposed to be rated at .24 thermall resistence (i forgot the measurement thingy), but i don't feel it is getting there..., thanks guys!
