View Full Version : Should IdolEyes start watching Louie?

IdolEyes has made some snarky remarks about some of the shows get bittards' panties in a bunch and such, but I think that the direction has pushed the discussion off the precipice and isolating the merit of some great programming out of reach.

For this, I created yet another ridiculous poll, all self-explanatory I think. My blessings to any mods that want to modify the options, as long as it's clever.

Umm...poll?

It's totally there

Also, I will link to a Fresh Air interview between Louis C.K. and Terry Gross

Idoleyes has been posting about Louie? That's my favorite comedy going on right now, love how they incorporated the two kids into this season

Not exactly, he shrugged it off as a Seinfeld rehash if I recall.

To me it's not a sitcom with cheese archetypes like Seinfeld is, but yeah that was my initial main draw to the show.

Idol still hasn't shown up, I was hoping he'd just stumble upon it and think, "WTF macky?"

Nothing you do surprises me.

More fuel to the fire I have yet to watch Game of Thrones,The Killing, Weeds,Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad( forgive me MBM),Entourage, all incarnations of SG, Luther, all but a single episode of House,Terriers, and basically anything else that I first learned about by some teenager singing it's praises on the internet.
I am sure that is entirely my loss and most, if not all of those shows are truly wonderful but a man should have a certain code that he lives by and mine revolves around seeing what people I have no respect for do and then doing the opposite.

Right, and I'm saying that you can throw all those away except for Breaking Bad, and put Louie at the top. Breaking Bad is a bit of a task to catch up with, it's a good 37-39 hours of programming to date... which is why I don't bother recommending it. Louie is about 8.5-9.5 hours to date. I'm not sure if I'd recommend one over the other, they're different types of shows and satisfy/entertain in different ways. So that's the breakdown.

I didn't know this was supposed to be a surprise, I only meant for you to stumble upon it and slap your forehead. If I made the thread title specific and obvious, there was a good chance you'd ignore it.

mine revolves around seeing what people I have no respect for do and then doing the opposite.

Other things I do:
- I avoid watching Jersey Shore, American Idol, Bachelor type shows, basically anything "reality"
- I prevent myself from raping women and molesting children (basically the same moral equivalence of item above)
- I come to complete stops at intersections where my lane has the red light
- I ingest food using my mouth and excrete it through my rectum.
- I wash myself
- I don't prank call government offices with bogus terrorist threats

In case you wanted to be thorough :smirk:

I knew that before making it...

On a brighter note, if we extrapolate, there's not a soul in the world who doesn't want you to watch it. A higher percentage want you to watch this show than want to see me continue to breathe.

Thanks frank, that actually might be helpful, something Idol needed to hear.

Actually, rather than psychological warfare, how about you listen to the interview Idol? The one I posted here:
http://filesharingtalk.com/threads/436574-What-s-it-going-to-take-Another-ridiculous-poll?p=3606673&viewfull=1#post3606673

Terry Gross interviews have brought to my attention many a film that I've never heard of and I could usually tell whether or not I'll like the movie from the interviews. And more recently it's brought TV shows to my attention. Justified is one that I've enjoyed (though not necessarily in love with). Actually, not just movies, TV, many other media.

A lot of his comedy isn't relatable to a younger crowd I feel. Not that you're young, maybe it's a lifestyle thing.

On the other hand, his show isn't an exact representation of his comedy, though some of his comedy does inspire some the "acts" of his show. For instance, the bag of dicks was turned into an odd pornographic fantasy in an elevator.

Sorry for arriving a little late at the party, but your "opposite" sounds A LOT like Oleg's...er... um, posite...

BTW, during my recent 40 hour, sleepless, cold-turkey, run of morphine withdrawal (thank you, f@$%ing c@*7 of a B!7@$ doctor), I started watching Louis. I have to say, compared to sweating, shaking, shitting, and having relentless restless leg ENTIRE body, the show rocks!

There you have it, macky, 1/1 morphine withdrawal sufferers prefer watching Louis to sweating, trembling, shitting, and spasming without Louis.

Louie is awesome for its insight into human life. Sure, it has some hilarious humor, but that only serves as a form of relief from the pain and sorrow that is so obviously and acutely felt by the lead character (Louie himself). I can relate to him on many levels and always feel better after watching an episode.

Where's your avatar Glod, and what really "inspired" you to finally join up and start posting?

It won't help to sell this show to Idol, he doesn't like shows that gets anybody excited, e.g. True Blood.

I hadn't thought much about an avatar until you mentioned it. This one is a kodama (木魂), which translates as tree spirit. I thought they were adorably depicted in Princess Mononoke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/もののけ姫), which is a favorite film.

Joining was decided after realizing I wanted to contribute to some of the threads, both in the BitTorrent section and elsewhere. Simple as that. As for Idol, he seems ornery. :P

Well it seems like all two of the bright minds that visit FST besides myself are here, so it would be awfully insulting if I refrained from joining this conversation, and bestowing upon all of you myself as an example of everything you should aspire to be.

That aside, what is Louie and why should I watch it? Also do the characters wear suits?
I'm actually interested now that I hear the show has a story.

Louie is just a show where Louis C.K. just experiences life. Some of it is "based" on reality, the other stuff seems like creative output. As far as suits, I remember him answering a question about wardrobe for his show, I'll paste below in a spoiler.

But if you're for reals curious about the show, then I can only recommend checking out the fresh air interview I linked to in Post #3 (http://filesharingtalk.com/threads/436574-Should-IdolEyes-start-watching-Louie?p=3606673&viewfull=1#post3606673). If that's a bit of time succubus, then you can always just proceed off my recommendation. I never recommend crap, ever. My track record is flawless on here.

Terry: So since you play yourself, or a character with the same name as yourself in the series, do you wear your own clothes?

Louis: That's a funny question. Yeah, I do. I wear - always - I just get dressed and go to the set. And, you know, it's just pretty much, I'm a guy that'll wear T-shirt and jeans, and sometimes I throw a polo over the T-shirt. And if it's cold, I throw on a sweatshirt. That's it. That's me. And I've tried throughout my career to - I'd love to be a guy in a suit. I thought when I started doing standup, I would wear suits because I just love that look of a dude in a suit, but I can't -If I put on a suit I just start melting, and it comes out, you know, the shirt comes out of the pants and...

I realize now my mistake Idol, I had not included a video clip of the show before. You're not a very good vehicle for my promotion if you can't even clue me in on that.

I wasn't satisfied with letting the topic die out with Idol imagining me handle my wacky jacky.
