Fuck yeah!!!!! So stoked about getting a second collage! 50 FL tokens are pretty neat too but I have no bookmarks to download! I love this site way too much XD

For anyone who wants to buffer, better get on those 20 or so staff picks sooner rather than later.

Only feature I give a fuck about is the tokens. But the staff making you spend 50 tokens in a weeks time is a bit ridiculous. Why have an expiration time on them at all?

Hopefully they use this feature more often though, preferably in a way that FSC does.

Yea ,why the expiration time? Baffling

Agreed. Was excited- until I saw they expired. Thought I might get ahead, and be able to grab some Gigs... :(

EDIT- thanks for the heads-up, 1kpc!

The easiest way to build up a little buffer is to download all the albums on 'New Music Charts' for the current week. It comes out every Saturday and is a collage containing the top 10 most snatched music releases in the past week. Seeing as you can snatch them all for free right now, there's no excuse for anyone not to get their ratio where it needs to be.

Haha yeah I've been downloading popular albums off of the top10 for years my buffer is pretty insane right now :P As a side-effect I've also discovered a bunch of great albums I might have missed out on otherwise.

The Wiki article implies that they might be given out in the future as well, so I doubt this week is the last we'll see of the freeleech tokens. It's kind of amusing that people's first response to "hey free music" is "QQ IT'S TEMPORARY" though :P

Anyway these things are usually a few days to a week long, so this is likely just a small part of the overall festivities.

they want to push users to try instead of sitting on these tokens, can't see anything wrong about it. what i didn't understood is 48hrs limit of leeching for them - probably tokens will be used more on well seeded torrents instead of half dead ones and hardly i can see any advantages of this for w.cd

But max size of allowed torrent is up to 1 gb anyway, if i understood correclty, even on low speeds you most likely will get it snatched by the end. Doing the math, as for example: 5 kbytes/s * 48 hours = 843 mb

math don't work if the last seed appeared a week ago or at the other end is transmission with some faulty settings. and 5kb/s isn't always the case. last night i started to leech some stuff from chdbits - 5 seeds, 4 kb/s. switched over to bithq - 1 seed 1.5mb/s. so speed may vary.

..oh, they changed ttl of tokens from 48 to 96 hours, not bad

...and there's a new round of staff picks

preferably in a way that FSC does.

Edit: I'm an idiot, disregard what I initially wrote here. Still though, 96 hours should be enough time to download pretty much any sub-1GB torrent unless it's completely unseeded.

I doubt they'll be FSC style, they'll probably be given out on special occasions or if a user does something particularly awesome.

I see FL tokens as a way of giving freeleech without the unintended side-effect of seedbox users uploading huge appz to get hundreds of gigs of buffer that they can use to hit and run music torrents later on. So the expiry date makes total sense. Same logic behind the big Pink Floyd collection Staff Pick being neutral leech instead of free leech.

What.cd management makes every other private tracker staffers look like complete amateurs in comparison, eh? Other sites should take notes aha.

When a member seeds a torrent for the required amount of time they get rewarded with a free download. What's wrong with that direction?

^This is actually needed as currently there's no incentive for long term seeders except the hope that someone'll download that album from the 1.5 million torrents there and that he may get to atleast a 1:1 ratio.

- if the required amount of time will be any less than, let's say, a year, tracker will end up with fsc peering quantity & activity. ...ah, of course, first step in losing peers would be waffles level. oh wait, we already have a tracker with more lax ratio policy (frequent freeleech, bonus points etc)
- if users will get some bonuses _just_ for seeding, it will promote more uploading of some random crap without any reasonnable snatching probabilty

what could really be addressed is seedbox ratio whoring / hit'n'running (of course, not in the way btmusic did), but i can't see no enthusiasm of doing it from staff

But isn't that the fundamental principle BT was set up on? Seed back and share exactly what you take...

I agree that it can take a long time more often than not, but that's more of a convenience issue than a sharing one. If you can't, or are not in a position, to give back what you take, then don't take it in the first place... simple enough really.

Yep, moving toward an FSC style system would be a terrible idea from the perspective of swarm size, retention, and quantity of new uploads. Letting people have a freebie after seeding for a week or two only works if you don't care about retention, i.e. on a 0-day site.

There is incentive. Don't even have to get into details of why, proof is that Whatcd has the most seeded music torrents.

I can't hear "Brother Down" without it evoking images of " Blackhawk Down".Pretty sure that's not what Sam Roberts intended.
Anyway he has a way with a hook if not as musically challenging as Bedouin Soundclash who for all their (dissimilar) reggae tinge sort of strike me as having the same sort of bouncy but deep sensibilities.

Geez upload something really archaic ,like from pre-1995 and 1000possibleclaws is at a loss.Since I always assumed he knew everything there is to know about music ,I am truly dumbfounded.

On "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" earlier today, 25% of the audience thought to drill a hole straight through the earth to Beijing, you had to start in Canada. Apparently 25% of Americans think we're in the southern hemisphere :o

If you drilled hole to the center of Earth , if you tripped ,which way would you fall?

Btw down isn't an acceptable answer since you would first have to determine which way was down.

And yes I know you have height like as if this was a sensible question.

You would think you'd fall towards the center and then keep going through till you almost fall out the other side, and then fall back into the center, and it'll keep going until you stop in the exact center.
