Picture the scene.

You are found dead in your bed. You have died peacefully in your sleep, you have not suffered, it's just that your time has come. You are lying there peacefully, to all intents and purposes you are just sleeping and have passed away.

There is a song playing quietly in the background, it is part of how people will remember you and this scene.

What would you like that song to be. Are there particular lyrics you would like, or a particular feeling. Please feel free to explain your choice if you wish.

For me it would be Freebird by Lynryd Skynryd.

"Feel It Turn" - Great Big Sea.

A song full of optimism. The live version, if possible, because it's much better when sung live.

I would like ' Nothing lasts forever' from Echo and the Bunnymen. Just because it has nice lyrics, and because it has a special meaning for me (and someone else) :)

In the Garden - Van Morrison

I'm not religious, so i fill in my own "believe" when he sings about the father, the son, etc.
For the rest i find it sheer poetry.

Ohh, and the mandoline-concersts of vivaldi!!!
The whole bunch!!! So damn romantic and sensy......

And j'pol, you just described my "ideal" death......
In about 35 years, that is

I don't think I can choose one song i'd prefer over all other's, but there's a few that i'd be happy if any of them were played -

DJ Rap - Good To Be Alive (I think that would be ironic lol)
Orbital - Are We Here
Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea
ColdPlay - Clocks
Evoke - Arms Of Loren
And last but not least,
Guru Josh - Infinity

Any of those would be nice :-)

I particularly like the musical interlude from 2:50 to 3:15. It has that wonderful lead-up to what sounds to be a bowed instrument.

For me:

Bare Naked Ladies- Tonight is the night I feel asleep at the wheel. Ironic, clever but not cutesy and views death in a whimiscal but utimately peaceful manner. A true 2 part song spanning some 9 minutes, but well worth a listen.

Here are some nice tidbits:

Drivin' home to be with you,
The highway's defiant, the city's in view.
As usual I'm almost on time,
Your're the last thing that's on my mind.
Wish I could tell you the way that I feel,
But tonight is the night I fell asleep at the wheel.

From the ceiling, my coffee cup drips,
While out my window the horizon does flips.
The worst part was hitting the ground,
not the feeling, so much as the sound.

He then goes on to describe people watching the ambulance and fire department arrive, he wonders if he is dreaming. The tone is that of slight amusement at the whole spectacle.

Then, in a refrain almost reminescent of a drunken bar song, he says:
I guess it's over now,
'cause I've never seen so much, never seen so much, never seen so much...

-one more time-

I guess it's over now,
'cause I've never seen so much, never seen so much, never seen so much...
Blood!!!!

In all the confusion, there is something serene.
I'm just a post-humous part of the scene.
Now I'm floating above, looking in
As the radio blares and wheels spin, I can see my face turned up with a grin.

And you....Your're the last thing on my mind.

-Ah, so that is what he meant-

The song then transitions with a dramatic ahhhhhhhhh! to his after death experience. The music conveys a sense of "floating" and he becomes acclimated to his new existence.

Final tidbits:

Shivering madly in the dark,
like an animal abandoned in the car park.
And she held me, and then she showed me the beauty of...the human heart.
Inside ourselves, a hidden sun that burns and burns,
But never does any harm, to any one.
A hidden sun that burns and burns,
but never does any harm, to anyone.
Anyone
Ohhhhh Anyone....

Anyway, a real treat it would be to pass away to this humorous, ironic and ultimately uplifting death serenade.

@Magic Nakor- Although Moonlight Sonata is a great song, it is so melancholy. I can feel the cold hands of death about my neck even now. I can hear the coarse grating sound as the the stone tablet seals me in my mausoleum crypt.

It is melancholy. But so is death.

I'm actually surprised that you heard of that song Hobbes. The Ladies weren't a US sensation until Stunt. Gordon was released far earlier. Although War on Drugs from Everything to Everyone'd be an interesting one to die to as well.

Hey Magic,

Did you know I came to this forum to expand my musical horizons, I asked people to recommend songs. Can you guess who recommended the song I mentioned!

It was you! Magic (http://www.klboard.ath.cx/index.php?showtopic=18395&hl=)

In fact, as I look at that thread, the names of the responding posters
now have meaning to me!

I guess you will be a little proud, and rightly so, of yourself this eve.

I like the topic, hate to see it go so soon.

As for Pink Floyd, my favorite is "Comfortably Numb" except for the instrumental which ends the song. And I still want to know what "swollen hand blues" are all about. Some say masturbation, however that does not fit with "When I was a child I had a fever, my hands swelled up like two balloons".

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me
For I must be traveling on now
There's too many places I've got to see

If I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change

Oh, and the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows I can't change

Bye-bye babe, it's been sweet, love
'Though this feeling I can't change
But please don't take this so badly
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame

But if I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change

Oh, and the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows I can't change
Lord help me I can't change

Oh No, I can't change

Comfortably Numb
Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now.
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can't explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Ok.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more --Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working. Good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on it's time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

5th line of song "Nobody Home"
lines 17 and 18 of song "Comfortably Numb"

The two lines may be unrelated but song on the album are so inter-related that I have always assumed some connection.

Well not necessarily, however I do take your point.

Sickle cell disorders are most common among individuals of African descent (1 in 375 - 1,667). The disorder is also commonly found in people of Mediterranean, Caribbean, Central and South American, Arabian and East Indian descent. In the United States, sickle cell disorders affect: 1 in 58,000 Caucasians; 1 in 1,100 Hispanics from Eastern states; 1 in 32,000 Hispanics from Western states; 1 in 11,500 Asians; and 1 in 2,700 Native Americans.

Hobbes. The only references I am able to find are concerning drugs. It would seem to suggest that drugs(That particular kind) gives the same symptoms as a child with kawasaki. But I am really only repeating what JP has said. Except that this disease is not limited to a specific race or blood type. I was going to say gene type, but I could foresee the 'nay nay laddie' posts.

I find it quite a hard question to answer, lots of songs would be great, but off the top of my head, this is a lovely mellow song.

Barenaked Ladies - When I Fall (from the album Born on a Pirate Ship - 1996)

I look straight in the window, try not to look below
Pretend I'm not up here, try counting sheep
But the sheep seem to shower off this office tower
9.8 straight down I can't stop my knees.

Chorus:
I wish I could fly
From this building, from this wall
And if I should try,
Would you catch me if I fall?

My hands clench the squeegee, my secular rosary
Hang on to your wallet, hang on to your rings
Can't look below me, or something might throw me
Curse at the windstorms that October brings.

I look in the boardroom; a modern pharaoh's tomb
I'd gladly swap places, if they care to dive
They're lined up at the window, peer down into limbo
They're frightened of jumping, in case they survive.

I wish I could step from this scaffold
Onto soft green pastures, shopping malls, or bed
With my family and my pastor and my grandfather who's Dead

Look straight in the mirror, watch it come clearer
I look like a painter, behind all the grease
But paintings creating, and I'm just erasing
A crystal - clear canvas is my masterpiece

Chorus

Unfortunately due to the ascension there is nothing left dangling.

*edit*

I changed my mind. I would like to have Box of Rain by the Grateful Dead playing in the background when my time is up.

Box of Rain - the Grateful Dead
Lyrics by Robert Hunter and Phil Lesh

Look Out Of Any Window
Any Morning, Any Evening, Any Day
Maybe The Sun Is Shining
Birds Are Winging Or
Rain Is Falling From A Heavy Sky -
What Do You Want Me To Do,
To Do For You To See You Through?
This Is All A Dream We Dreamed
One Afternoon Long Ago
Walk Out Of Any Doorway
Feel Your Way, Feel Your Way
Like The Day Before
Maybe You'll Find Direction
Around Some Corner
Where It's Been Waiting To Meet You -
What Do You Want Me To Do,
To Watch For You While You're Sleeping?
Well Please Don't Be Surprised
When You Find Me Dreaming Too
Look Into Any Eyes
You Find By You, You Can See
Clear Through To Another Day
I Know It's Been Seen Before
Through Other Eyes On Other Days
While Going Home --
What Do You Want Me To Do,
To Do For You To See You Through?
It's All A Dream We Dreamed
One Afternoon Long Ago
Walk Into Splintered Sunlight
Inch Your Way Through Dead Dreams
To Another Land
Maybe You're Tired And Broken
Your Tongue Is Twisted
With Words Half Spoken
And Thoughts Unclear
What Do You Want Me To Do
To Do For You To See You Through
A A Box Of Rain Will Ease The Pain
And Love Will See You Through
Just A Box Of Rain -
Wind And Water -
Believe It If You Need It,
If You Don't Just Pass It On
Sun And Shower -
Wind And Rain -
In And Out The Window
Like A Moth Before A Flame
It's Just A Box Of Rain
I Don't Know Who Put It There
Believe It If You Need It
Or Leave It If You Dare
But It's Just A Box Of Rain
Or A Ribbon For Your Hair
Such A Long Long Time To Be Gone

(I wouldn't capitalize every word in a song but the site where I found the lyrics did)

Myfanwy sung by the late David Alexander.

Just because it is a beautiful song sung by a great singer.

Hello im a big fan of version of the song but cant find the lyrics anywher wondering if you can help me out

Mr JP Fugley
06-27-2006, 05:39 PM
Why is it anger, O Myfanwy,
That fills your eyes so dark and clear?
Your gentle cheeks, O sweet Myfanwy,
Why blush they not when I draw near?
Where is the smile that once most tender
Kindled my love so fond, so true?
Where is the sound of your sweet words,
That drew my heart to follow you?

What have I done, O my Myfanwy,
To earn your frown? What is my blame?
Was it just play, my sweet Myfanwy,
To set your poet's love aflame?
You truly once to me were promised,
Is it too much to keep your part?
I wish no more your hand, Myfanwy,
If I no longer have your heart.

Myfanwy, may you spend your lifetime
Beneath the midday sunshine's glow,
And on your cheeks O may the roses
Dance for a hundred years or so.
Forget now all the words of promise
You made to one who loved you well,
Give me your hand, my sweet Myfanwy,
But one last time, to say "farewell".

Original Welsh lyrics

Pa ham mae dicter, O Myfanwy,

Ni cheisiaf fyth mo'th law, Myfanwy,

This is why I have to fuck with people's heads now, figuritively of course.
It's a good job I came along when I did. You're spelling has improved beyond all recognition.

You did? That is surprising.

Delusions of grandeur, perchance.

So it would seem. All better now tho', probably due to your own good offices.

The forum has much to thank you for. That "Forum Star" shouldn't be long now.

Are you saying that you expect VB1234, Mr. Mulder, NikkiD or IKE to commend me.

I would have listed more 'Forum Stars' but once they're bestowed with this title, they appear to feck orf.

Foo Fighters - Learn To Fly

Run and tell all of the angels
This could take all night
Think I need a devil to help me get things right
Hook me up a new revolution
Cause this one is a lie
We sat around laughing and watched the last one die
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for complication
Looking cause I'm tired of lying ( trying)
Make my way back home when I learn to fly
I think I'm done nursing the patience
I can wait one night
I'd give it all away if you give me one last try
We'll live happily ever trapped if you just save my life
Run and tell the angels that everything is alright..
Fly along with me, I can't quite make it alone
Try and make this life my own

My reason,
This song has fixated to me for some time now.
I'm not quite dead on my bed but if I was then this would definitely be it.

I'm sleeping on the sofa tonight.

Peace & Love :D my song (http://media.putfile.com/Learn-to-fly-49-58)

My peaceful but untimely death would demand a medly of the following, in no particular order...

Barbers' Adaggio for Strings.
Orffs' Carmena Burana.
Rhiannon, by Fleetwood Mac- It's my middle name.
Cities of Gold Theme tune
Simple Twist of Fate - Dylan
Sign of the times - Prince

And many many more...

But my friends will have to choose them.
