what is the best video converter to create m-HD files, for Linux (ubuntu).
iv seen the tute in this forum but that seems long and don't think that would work with linux...

Just want software just to convert any type of file to m-hd (mkv), so not looking for any pro software to rip a blu-ray and then convert just looking for something to convert hd rips into smaller m-hd mkv files

Got handbrake to work, didn't need makedvd since not ripping direct from disc, wanted to try MeGUI but couldn't find noob guide to setup vbox vm

Which codec are you using to encode? Are you sure you're using x264?

erm i could find out how to install that i didn't know of any codec.

It should all kind of come together, but I can't recall and have no way to test it nowadays.

To clarify, x264 is an encoding tool for encoding videos in the H.264/AVC format. From what you posted earlier, it sounds like you encoded with XVID (the H.263/DIVX format), and that would be the reason it was put into an AVI container.

i followed this link but i wanted mkv output. and input any hd file. but could get it to output to mkv.
