You've got to be kidding.

First you ask a question that you already have the answer for, then you say you can't figure out how to remove toothpaste from plastic?

Give me a break.

That wasn't very nice.

Indulge me, though.

How is this intended to "fool the local pawnbroker"?

Pledge furniture polish. Let it dry a bit before you buff it. It might take a few applications to fill a deeper scratch.

No, I won't STFU.

If you cannot figure out how to get toothpaste off some plastic then I don't understand you.

Did you ever brush your teeth? How did you get the toothpaste off the plastic toothbrush?

I think you're on to something here.

Personally, I use a ultrasonic cleaner followed by a quick trip through the beadblasting cabinet.

How about you?

BTW, I don't think that either of these methods would be very good for a CD...

toothpaste is soluble in water
if you use water, you negate the effect of adding the toothpaste to the cd (to a large extent)

toothpaste works because it is a mild abrasive (don't use the toothbrush though).

metal polish works as well - another mild abrasive.

using these methods works, but it does leave the suface looking slightly dull

Remarkable.

Not only that... There have been other topics in the past that dealt with scratched CDs. Here's a couple:
