Did you try the driver for your monitor?

hey. maybe u can help me out vb. i got a NEC MultiSync FE700 17' CRT. and at 1280 x that #, the screen is like flat. no matter wat i do with the buttons, the screen is compressed and made into a rectangle. a little help here? it might be a hardware prob, like one of those bulb things went haywire, but if it isn't, i'd like to fix that.

Hey abu_has_the_power, does that problem only show up with the settings at 1280x1024?

Do you mean that there is a black bar at the top and bottom?

yep. looks like a rectangle in the screen, with black on top and bottom. i do the 4 arrow screen adjustment, and it won't go up or down. not sure if it's hardware, or software.

In both cases, it could very well be a problem with the refresh rate. 60Hz is ok for flat panel monitors because they can't physically react that fast anyway, but it is not a good rate for CRT monitors.
