I want to get a new pc system built after xmas.I would like your advice on which parts you would recommend using.

For example: adm or pentium, graphic card, ram. etc

looking to spend £500-£600

an Athlon XP 2600+ should be good, with a ATI Radeaon 9600 mit 256 mb, 512mb ddr ram, DVD Drive, A nforce 2 Mainboard and so on....

What do you want to do with this PC when it's done?

Is there anything that you really have to include?
Anything you don't want?

Maybe a nice Asus board mated to a Barton core 2500+ with 512mb of good PC 3200 memory.
80-120GB HDD.
CD-RW.
Mid level video card.
Depending on the mobo you get you may not need anything for a sound card.
Decent brand PSU ( maybe 350-400w?).

Whatever case strikes your fancy.

Done.

Oh sure.

My theory would be to get the best board that you can 'cause it's easy to upgrade everything else one step at a time.
